How to fix a Amiga Ball Mouse

I was have a problem with my arrow moving across the screen,it would move a cross ok sometimes and then get stuck, alot of the time it was left to right so I looked and the little rollers inside the mouse and there is a roller that pushes the ball on to the other to 2 rollers,I fix it by puting a bit of selotape around the roller and now it work lovley..

I thought I would shear this tip so if you have the problem maybe this will help..

The mouse is a Amiga 1200 Mouse.. A0191453.

Like this but mine is as yellow as a lemon...lol

sometimes the ball can get a little shiny and skid across the surface. Worth giving that a clean too.

also clear the holes in the wheels for the x and y axis as well if there slightly blocked you get stuttering across the screen as well.

you could try greasing the axel for them as well, with lithium grease...just dont get it on the ball.

and ,check the cable for continuity on all the strands.there known to break internally.

I also cleaned mine, it got better but still way behind an optical mouse in precision. Can't understand I had the patience to use one of these back then.

Or can a ball-mouse be as good as an optical if it works well?

Yes, I agree with that .
The best method I found to get my mouse ball like new again (not shiny and as 'gummy' as new) is cleaning it with simple soap+water, like when washing my hands.
I keep it in my hands and wash it, rolling and rubbing it well. Then rinse with water, dry it with a cloth et voilà, as new .
