Can't install MUI 5.0 on AmigaOS 3.2.2.1

Good evening all,

I'm in the late stages of rebuilding my A500 (with ACA500+ and X-Surf 500) running AmigaOS 3.2.2.1. I've installed pretty much all of the system tools and applications, WHDLoad, and the works. Looking at installing a WHDLoad front-end and was considering iGame, but it required MUI 5.0 which I am having problems installing.

I launch the installer, get through the welcome page, and then the page if I want to install for real, but then if I click to Proceed, the installer crashes (but does not guru) on a program called "flushmui". All I can do is suspend the task and reboot. This crash is consistent and repeatable. It also happens if I start up the system with no startup-sequence, and launch the installer from the CLI.

Any help would be appreciated!

MUI 5.0 requires a graphics card. Do you have one? If not, you'll have to use a different program for your menu.

This is on an A500 with native graphics.

Does MUI 3.8 still work on AmigaOS 3.2.2.1 (or I think I read there was a 3.9?)?

All versions of MUI prior to 5.0 work on native graphics. Try MUI 4 or MUI 3.8.

MUI 3.9 should work fine, check the installer icons tooltypes. If it has C:Installer as the default tool change the path to SYS:System/Installer. OS32x has a newer version and it should install correctly.

Is this correct? as I installed in on my 3.2.2.1 without issue and works fine on AGA.

http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/iGame
The readme says:

Requirements:
* Kickstart 2.04 or higher
* Workbench 2.1 or higher
* MUI 3.8 or higher
* icon.library v37+ (v44+ Recommended)
* guigfx.library
* render.library
* guigfx.mcc
* Texteditor.mcc
* NListviews.mcc

On your system I would recommend to install/use MUI 3.8.

MUI 5.0 package seems to have a version 3.8 MUI.guide:

System Requirements
===================

MUI requires version 2.0 of the Amiga operating system or higher.

Kickstart 1.3 is *not* supported; this operating system has been
considered to be obsolete.

The use of MUI on a harddisk is *highly* recommended, although floppy
disk usage is still possible. Due to the modular concept behind MUI
the first application startup may last "a little" longer.

MUI does not require a special processor, but of course the faster
CPUs make life easier. Many complex calculations are needed for the
management and layout of the objects, so a "base" 68000 based machine
could be a tad slow.

MUI applications can run on machines only equipped with 512K of free
RAM, but could become obsolete quite soon. One Megabyte (1024K) RAM
should be sufficient even for the most complex MUI applications.

It may not be a hard requirement but high-color displays greater color depths more freely than palette displays can do.

Do you have p96 aga installed?

I think I have mui5 installed on my AGA A1200 as well although I might be wrong. Did not turn it on for a long time.
