PC Floppy drive on a1200 1d4 mobo

I heard that those mobos were shipped with pc drives instead of real amiga drives, so can i put a standard pc floppy in it atl east to read standard disks(not ndos)?
I know the facts about the "special" drives on amiga and for that i have a catweasel in my pc, but could be useful having a floppy drive for emergencies in the 1200, and not to pulling in and out an hd for doing updates on software. Actually i don't have yet a ide cd for this mobo.
Some time ago i heard that they were plain pc drives, so i'm asking. it's a doubt i have since long time ago.
Thanks in advance!

They were modified PC drives. You need to do a 2<->34 swap in your cable at least.. (perhaps use another cable)
