Ok heres a Question..lol

Has anybody used the awesome Icon.library with OS3.1.4...? The reason i ask is it appears that the new OS dont like Fblit...(locks up with os3.14 icon.library) thats a shave as i loved Fblit saving my chip ram.

icon.library 46.4 test versions

Yes, I use it with 3.1.4.

Or should I rather say, I have updated my systems with components from OS 3.1.4

Yes, I think, it should be, but Thomas was so kindly to leave me a download link here: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...postcount=2638

Thanks Thomas, it's a very nice tool!

@Mark sealey
Sorry, I don't have 3.1.4, because I don't need it. But if it's true that 3.1.4 doesn't support FBlit anymore, then I would really never want it to be installed on my system. I know that ThoR doesn't like FBlit, he just thinks it's crap, but FBlit is a "must have" for every system without P96 or CGX and not supporting it would be a big mistake. Update: FBlit still works!

If FBlit really doesn't work with the FBlit.cfg for OS 3.5+ then you can only install P96 and one of the monitor drivers which you will never use, and P96 will make icons in FastMem possible, too.

Btw, I'm curious now, why you want to use the 3.1.4 icon.library, what are the advantages?

You could be surprised if you knew what ThoR did regarding FBlit.

I cannot coment much beyond that, but I am sure FBlit lovers will thank him in the future.

Please, don't hesitate to give any positive comments here about ThoR and FBlit. I think ThoR will be happy if you praise his changes concerning FBlit ...

Picasso96 does not always do this miracle, if you try to open a few drawers on the Workbench with Amikit you will notice that in any case a certain consumption of memory Chip..

I do not know what changes on AfA-OS but on this OS not even 1K of Ram Chip is consumed even though I have opened many more drawers on the Workbench with many more icons.

Is one of your examples working with the 3.1.4 icon.library, the one with the ChipMem loss?

I'm not surprised about that loss, if the 3.1.4 icon.library is based on the OS 3.9 icon.library code, because that was also always wasting ChipMem, even when Prefs/Workbench was set to use images in "other memory". So, what is 3.1.4 icon.library good for or where is it better?

In the 3.1.4 icon.library compared to the 3.9 one, there are now bugfixes and proper checks and safeguards for maximum icon name length, nothing else at first sight.

Consider me a renegade, but there is no secret I still prefer your library for a whole lot of reasons.

BTW, Thomas WBDock is now extremely good. I really like it.

I loved the idea of your icon.library and fblit on my 3.1 system....I end up with just under 1.8 meg chip....however 3.1 was unstable on my Furia A600....3.1.4 is rock solid so far...I even had VistaPro fpu running for a bit....I always like to stay faithful to developers and there work.

Hmm, ... and the combination of OS 3.1.4 with my icon.library and FBlit does not work? AS I already said, FBlit may need the FBlit.cfg for OS 3.5+ now, but I can't test it without having 3.1.4.

Or how about trying my library on 3.1.4 without FBlit. I heard that 3.1.4 should be clever enough to use FastMem, I'm just not sure if I should believe it.

As already mentioned above you could try to install P96 instead of FBlit.

Edit: No, I tried that myself with OS 3.1, but it seems not to work perfectly, because the icons on the Workbench are appearing in 4 colors only, whereas the icons in drawers are displayed correctly. So, better send a bug report to the 3.1.4 developers about the missing FBlit support and the ChipMem wastage.

Ahem... Then they do have a substitute for FBlit and they are also trying to use a substitute for this great icon.library?. Am I right?

Don't know if 3.1.4 offers any substitutes, but probably some suboptimal solutions ...

That's why Amiga has remained behind, everyone goes his own way and everything becomes commercial, Amiga divides again until it disappears.
