They give great service and their kit is second to non.

You pay a premium especially for non-Amiga specific kit from them because they are a small re-seller. They probably do not have the buying power to secure lower prices than either you or I and once they have added their margin....

So they try to add value by creating plug-n-play solutions with pre-formatted Amiga disks with drivers etc.

They have been a driving force in our market, they have brought at least one new product to the market (A602) and sponsored the re-manufacture of others (Subway)

I would suspect it's the PSU... you can pretty much rule it out cheap enough by using one of these and an ATX psu;

this has got my attention, can i use this item to power the cd32 from an a500 power brick ?, or something else ?

this would be an ideal way to eliminate the cd32 powerbrick from my enquires, and great if can use an alternative power brick if it was the culprit.

cheers

It will allow you to use a PC type PSU (AT / ATX).

probably yes as the cd32 uses 12v and 5v, just a mater of getting the power to the right pins

Yep, just open the side, disconnect all power cables from the old motherboard, loosen the 4 screws that hold the PSU in place and gently remove the PSU. Plug the PSU in, attach the CD32 connector to a standard molex HDD connector and plug it in to your CD32.

To switch an ATX only PSU on depending on the pin count on the main power connector:-

20 Pin connector (Pins facing) - short pins 13 & 14 (green wire and black)
24 Pin connector (Pins facing) - short pins 15 & 16 (green wire and black)

Image shows pins facing

For an AT PSU, it'll have a physical switch that'll need removing from the tower along with the PSU, so you don't need to do anything else but plug it all in and switch it on

Hope this helps as it's quite easy

thanx for info, i may give this a crack as i never use the old pc, just one point though--

the pic above says 'shorth these pins' ?, cut them/short them ?

before i try this, im just wondering if i could use an old A500 power brick (i have 3 of em) to run the cd32 ?, maybe by just cutting the ends of each and swapping em round by taping/connecting together ?

cheers

to short , just use a bit of wire, do not cut as that would be an open

like I said it a case of getting the right voltage to the right pin so if you want to hack the end off an a500 power brick it should work, as long as you know which wire is which of course and don`t use the -12v

As CF says, short pins with a wire to connect them together

This may help too, some voltages

man, d h r, those instuction diagrams have got me worried, complicated to be sure.

id like to narrow the fault down to the psu, then get one off amigakit if thats the prob.

just as an aside, i presume its not possible to backup the cd32 flash mem (scores), if the actual console is dead and its not a psu prob ?

Sorry kirk for the huge and complex looking diagram, but it was easier for me to upload the whole thing rather than keep cutting it to bits for just the two you required.

I've cut it down (post #29) to the ones you'll probably require, need any help, just ask if you're not sure.
