Disk Types
I've been reading the faqs on transferring files from Amiga to PC and they go on about High Density and Double Density disks and 720kb PC formats and 880kb Amiga formats. I need someone to explain the difference to me. What is the maximum capacity of a High Density disk and what is the maximum capacity of a Double Density disk? Which type does the Amiga 880kb internal drive use? What are standard Amiga disks like Workbench on? Finally what do the holes do, is two holes HD and one hole DD?

As for the actual media, the diskettes with one hole are DD, and those with 2 holes are HD, as you were thinking. The capacity of either type of disk varies depending on what OS is used to format the diskette. A DD diskette that is formatted for use with a PC will have a capacity of 720K, while the same diskette formatted under AmigaDos will have a capacity of 880K. A HD diskette that is formatted for use with a PC will have a capacity of 1.44 MB, while the same diskette formatted under AmigaDos will have a capacity of 1.76 MB. Hope this helps!

Yes it does ! But the internal floppy of an A500/500+/600/1200 can only write a max of 880kb, or is this wrong? You need a High Density external drive to format disks to 1.76Mb don't you?
