Question Icon types

Hi, I've many questions about icon types in WHDLoad installs:
- Which kind of icon type (magicwb, rom, new, glow) is for which OS / gfx tool ?
- Which is the best icon editor/converter for which OS (3.1/3.5/3.9) ?
- Is it possible to make some/all of the icon types visible on OS 3.1 ?
- Which icon type do I have to install with WHDLoad if I just have plain OS 3.1 with no gfx addons ? If I install one of these above I have either an ugly messed up icon or a simple black point on the screen !?

Thanks for help !

MagicWB icons are the same as ordinary WB icons. MagicWB merely replaces the original icons with new images and a new colour scheme.

NewIcons is exactly that. a NEW icon system. a newicon will appear as a square in WB unless you have install the newicon libraries.

GlowIcons is a new system of icons introduced with o.s 3.5.

imo the best icon system is newicons becuase it looks presentable on both ecs and aga machines.

the majority of the whdload games ive downloaded have icons included that require NewIcons to work properly.

Thanks for your help. I will install newicons and will have a look...

Only things I would like to know are: what is a "rom" icon and what is the best icon editor/converter for e.g. OS 3.1...

Any further help would be great !

A RomIcon is using the standard 8 MWBColors plus 8 additional ones. I suggest you to get the RomIcons8.lha from aminet. Theres a description in the guide how to set the palette.

Personally im using the Romicon palette plus 16 additonal colors so i get 32 color icons. Dunno from which archive the palette was but think the icons ive created (loads of them)for it look awesome.

If youre intrested in the icons ive created plus the info and the proper palette for it drop a msg here or pm me.

Ive attached two screenies from a few of my icons.

i have magic wb installed now and am satisfied with the icons, but all my whdload games are just a square...

im planning on reinstalling my wb 3.1 and betterwb to get a fresh one, but how do i get rid of the squares (and get the real icons for the whdload games) but i still want wb to look like this:

EDIT:

You have to install NewIcons from the Aminet. Then you have proper WHDLoad game icons.

Yep. NewIcons is no icons pack. It's a programm that allows you to display the NewIcons style icons used in the WHDLoad game patches.
