Flag by Gremlin

Does anyone ever remember seeing the previews to a gremlin game called Flag back somewhere between 1991-1993. I remember being blown away by the gfx. I saw screenshots etc. in various magazines, I'll dig 'em out and find out what it was about.

Was this game ever released?

I remember it and it didn't come out, unless it turned into something like Utopia...

If I remember rightly it looked a bit like settlers, the huts etc.. just much much bigger. In fact the buildings looked similar to those used in Core Designs Heimdall!

My memory isn't 100% because it was a long time ago. I'll look in my mags once I am sorted (Moving house atm!!)

Right'o I have just dug through some old issues of CU Amiga and in the September 1991 issue on page 7 there is a brief preview of flag. But the hut screenshot is actually a shot of a game called seigemaster, dunno if this was released.

In the December 1991 issue of CU on page 59 there is a more indepth look at Flag. The 3D isometric was correct (seigemaster has same perspective!) and it is a war type game cum populous cum utopia mixed. It was being developed by Ian Harling and Simon Cooke who collaberated on The lost patrol.

I have looked in later editions of CU and can't seem to find Flag mentioned anywhere - Oh well. I'll check other mags of the era when I am sorted.

When I get sorted I'll scan both previews and u/l them.

LOL!!!

By the way, this is the first issue of Amiga Action I ever saw. In fact, it may even be the first European Amiga mag I ever saw!

Incidently Dizzy, did you intend for that first link to include a URL?

Thanks...I knew I'd heard that name before. That's actually an AtariST compact series (yet another...) I have the full set somewhere.

Digging out an old and dead threat... well, I got my hands on the discs with the graphics Ian Harling made for 'Flag' by coincidence, it`s a shame that the game was never released since sprites/intermediate pictures/backgrounds/animations etc look very promising. I. Harling said that the whole project was maybe too ambitious and too original for that time so Gremlin stopped the project before they could finish it.

I can't recall the issue, but I vaguely recall in The One,(probably in the 92/93 era), of a mini-preview of the game being published by someone else. It actually made mention of originally being done by Gremlin, but it was renamed-I just don't remember much else though, it might've been Millenium who took it over,in any case I still don't think it ended up being released anyway, much like Gremlins isometric game Ramrod.

Oh, yes. Indeed. Unfortunately I only have a couple of screenshots and nothing else.
BTW: "aGTW" please. Not "AGtW". Or you'll feel Akira's teeth munching your ass!

Yes, I do remember. This game was under the Gremlin Label, then The One had a feature in many games Mindscape was going to publish in 1993, and Flag was there, but with a different name indeed.
