Best config to use less battery power on a laptop

Hi. (Yes a repost of the WinUAE one for my lubuntu).

I'm running FS-UAE on a lubuntu laptop. I was wondering what is the best config to use less of the battery or cpu as possible. I don't need 100% compatibility.

I normally just emulate a A1200 with 2mb fast or a A500/A600HD 68k or 68010 machine. I don't need a lot of fast RAM, 4mb is normally enough for me or use the picasso96. I normally have the sound disabled by default. My HDD partions are 20MB or smaller.

Thanks

Is it possible to configure the cpu as JIT (just in time iirc)? If I'm not mistaken the host processor will hardly do anything when the running Amiga is idle.

Best config is keep it with a powercord, guaranteed to use least amount of battery or use a new battery with an 8hour charge!

But serious now... aim for configuring it as low end machine and sound... like an A500
with its default setup. Dont use any shaders, filters, themes or scanlines

Then is the gpu power usage.. need to compare software rendering vs hardware...
I cannot perform this test with precision to power consumption but it also depends on what gpu, OS and drivers you have

Example... I noticed that my GPU over throttles on Ubuntu but works good with Mint.. too many variables to look into here if you include the OS

Thanks guys. I try to use the powerchord as little as possible because I hear it ends your battery quicker?? But I will run smaller machines as I don't really use 040 or 060 features.

You can also reduce the display brightness and USB power to retain battery power.

Leaving your laptop plugged in will not cause short term damage, but if you only ever use it on AC power you’ll almost certainly find that after a year the battery’s capacity has been significantly reduced. Similarly, if you only ever use it on battery power you’ll get through the battery’s discharge cycles quicker.

So, the best solution is something of a compromise between the two: use it on battery power some days, and keep it plugged in on others. And in all cases, you’ll want to ensure it doesn’t get too hot.

This depends also on the laptop manufacturer as I have seen some brands have a pretty smart method of recalibrating the battery by performing an automatic discharge cycle even when plugged in.

Consider a new battery every 3-5 years

Make sure to set accurate to medium (or low) instead of high when emulating A500/600/1200. That will disable cycle-accuracy, and will use a lot less CPU for emulation.
