Hi to you all. This is my first contribution to the Amiga board..

I have a question about playing ancient Amiga games on my original Kickstart 1.3 1 Mb Amiga 500.
Last year I inherited 2 discboxes with eighties-games like Platoon, Manhattan Dealers and Starglider2.
Some games however refuse to run on my Amiga. When I insert a disc I get a prompt "Software Error blah blah All tasks finished blah blah", then I get a continuous looping Guru prompt.
This problem occurs with the following games:
Test Drive, Soldier of Light, Obliterator, Leaderboard and Summer Games.

I guess it has something to do with the Kickstart version you use. Can anyone help?

Try it with the Kickstart 1.2 instead. Prolly work then.

Try uploading one of them, I'll try it when I get home then.

Kickstart is a combination of hardware and sotware

I am not quite sure, but I think downgrading from Kickstart 1.3 to 1.2 on an original Amiga is not only about getting other software but also installing other hardware.
I remember a friend of mine upgrading from Kickstart 1.3 to 2.0 and he had to screw open his Amiga and install a Kickstart chip.

But then again, maybe my memories are fuzzy

Don't Worry!!!

You'll need NO hardware, just get hold of a degrader!!

What is a degrader?

Forgive me for acting as a newbie, but what is a degrader? A piece of software that can run old Amiga games?
I can vaguely remember a little tool way back in 1993 called 'Retrokick'. It was for new A1200 users who wanted to play old Amiga games on their AGA machines. Is this some kind of a degrader?

Thanx, I'll try to download it (some day)..

..But first I need to buy a new Pentium pc with a working A-drive and Internet connection. I will download a degrader, convert it to an Amiga disc and play these games then.

But it is nice to know there is a solution for playing these Kickstart 1.2 games on my Amiga. Many thanks.
