What display do you use for real Amiga?

At the moment I use RC modulator to connect A1200 to PC via Winfast TV Tuner. The picture quality is as expected low.

I can't use SCART connector, but I actually can Composite Out because WinFAST TV Tuner has Composite IN.

But before I do this... Is anyone using this Composite Video Out? Is picture better then on TV modulator?

I use a Hp 19" (flat) and Amiga + graphic card and scandoubler

Composite is certainly much better quality than RF, but it's still not up to RGB/Scart standards. If you only have RF & Composite connections - definately go for Composite.

I did use RGB until I lost my cable. So I use composite. It's cack.

You could always buy a VGA box that would convert Scart to VGA for use on your monitor.

I quite like it this way... to connect to the TV card and then use PiP or fullscreen on my 21" CRT. I also use TwinView to another 19" CRT. And the 19" CRT is connected via KVM 2-way splitter (VGA,Keyboard,Sound) with my main computer and retro-gaming one (Voodoo/Win9X/Dos).

So if you get the picture. 2 computers under the desk and 2 heavy duty monitors on the desk. And from this weekend one another Nostalgic A1200 that is being worked on And everything can work simultaneously.

I will get me some composite cable to test this out. I only wish that some RGB (scart) to composite would exist The guy who sold me A1200 demostrated it on a RGB TV... then we switched to RF

No thanks, I'll grab an RGB lead when I get the chance. I refuse to play games on PC monitors.

That doesn't make sense... you'd be downgrading the signal so it'd look exactly the same as plain composite..

you should really invest on a scandoubler kixs!
from personal experience , the order of upgrading an amiga is as following:

cpu -> scandoubler -> rtg

though in reality for me the scandoubler is as crucial as the cpu upgrade... using tv-like monitors in 2007 sux.

My A1200's graphics card output is sent to a Iiyama 19" 1280x1024 LCD via a VGA->DVI-A adapter, while the native output is sent to a 14" TV (sitting beside the LCD) via RGB SCART.

As you can see a Scandoubler(with flickerfixer) is as must if you don't wanna get an old rusty RGB monitor or a Multisync monitor

What I actually ment was: RGB to S-Video (maybe it can be done?)

On my TV card I have Video-IN for Coaxial, Composite and S-video. And S-video would be the best in my case.

I really don't want to invest in any more addons, I don't (won't) use Workbench very much.

How good do games look on a RGB or scandoubler?

I always belived that TV added bluring that actually "enhanced" the quality. Almost no edginess on TV. Yesterday I tried Cannon Fodder CD32 simultaniously on WinUAE on one monitor and A1200 on the other though TV card. Chrispness is of course much better on WinUAE, but overall image seems better on TV (there are more shades of color, while on PC its too defined. Every pixel is visible and no bluriness.

Well, on TV there was a bit too much bluring but I hope Composite video would be a little better.

So how is this chrispness on RGB and scandoubler compared to WinUAE on PC monitor and to TV output?

PS:
TV had always added some bluriness to image, thats way old computers (8-bit, 16-bit) and consoles had nice looking image. Even today! PC on the other hand had to use Hi-Res and TrueColor modes, even fullscreen AntiAliasing to add that nice TV effect

As i posted elsewhere, i still cant figure out why my scandoubler likes to make tiny zig zaggs on my workbench screen when it runs in high res interlace. I cant stand running workbench in just plain high res, everything is just too damn big!.

I used to use Workbench in High Res Interlace back in the day with a screen filter & a reduction in the brightness and contrast to reduce the flicker. It worked great, but that monitor has since died, and it would be nice to see Workbench in interlace mode again just to get that look right.

But nope, all im getting is that fuzzy zig zagged look. although games look fine ( if a little chunky ).

...hmm...slightly disagree.

If I use the WB or play games like Napalm etc, VGA (Scandoubler/Flicker Fixer) is my first choice. But real classics like North & South etc. (Low-Res or High Res Games) in my Opinion look awful on a "modern" monitor. Here I use a RGB Scart -> TV connection instead ( "smooth" pixels because of lower sharpness/quality).

A big RGB compatible TV is the only decent way to play Amiga games (Ok maybe I'll let off the GP2X)

The pixels looks "smoother" through the TV scanlines. A monitor bigger than 15" is not recommend for the old games, looks really awful. I'm using a RGB cable on my 55 cm Sony Flat TV, the picture quality is amazing.

Yes, too (I am not using plasma/lcd TV but the "oldschool thing" When I wrote "modern Monitor" I had VGA in mind).

As it can be seen from the screenshots, the composite video is quite blurry. But when the screen is low res and with more colors (like on the X-Copy screens), then this bluriness is a plus


I guess I will settle with Composite Out.

I just got my RGB->Scart cable and it roxx. I never thought I would get such a sharp picture on my TV set. I'll never go back to composite (aahh me eyes )
