.DMS files?

I have been downloading a few demo's to use in WinUAE. I came across some demos with xxx.dms. If I go into my Workbench HD setup and double click them I get an error.

How do I use them please?

Also I have noticed that some demo's require a PPF Amiga? I guess that's some sort of graphics card of some kind? Could I set that up in WinUAE?

Thanks all

As I'm too lazy at the moment to type a paragraph, thought I'd link to this thread instead: DMS files

Edit: noticed you just updated your post with PPF stuff... I'll let someone else answer that one

DMS is a compressed disk image. You can run it like you would an ADF by letting the Amiga boot from it directly.

The only thing I know about PPF is to do with patching Playstation ISO images - completely unrelated to Amiga demo disks. So maybe someone else can help there...

EDIT: You beat me to it Damien

I think you'll find they require a PPC Amiga i.e. one with a PowerPC CPU rather than the conventional 680x0 processors found in classic Amigas.

Thanks all.

So I guess I can't run PPF demo's on WinUAE then.

Do any of you guys recommend any high system requirement Amiga demos's?

I would love to see more. I have downloaded:

Planet Potion
Starstruck
Nexus 7
Desert Dream
Silkcut
Relic

You aren't going to get any higher-end than Starstruck IMHO

But maybe have a look at these:

Beats by Loveboat: http://aminet.net/demo/aga/beats.lha
SKA by UpRough: http://www.uprough.net/releases/UP-CLSKA.LHA
Rain by TBL: http://aminet.net/demo/aga/Rain.lha
Ride by Skarla: http://aminet.net/demo/aga/Ride.lha
Roots by Sanity: http://aminet.net/demo/aga/sanity_roots.dms (Not high end, but pretty nice)

Most things by Sanity and The Black Lotus (TBL) are always slick...

I can't seem to get Silkcut to run properly in latest WinUAE.

I see up until the snow covered mountains start scrolling past and then I'm kicked back to Workbench with a 'out of memory' error.

If I use a A1200, A4000 or '060 setup with ANY memory configurations I still get the same message.

I load up the demo by double clicking the silkcut.exe.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

First I tried 8m chip and 128 Z fast and then tried with 256 and 512. Also tried these in combination with slow mem.
Then I tried 2m chip and max normal fast ram (non Z) and then same again with slow ram and then again with some Z fast ram.
Last of all I tried everything I could maxed out.

I have 2 gig memory on my PC.

Does anyone have an idea what memory I should set to what?

Thanks.
