Boooo at X-Arcade
Well, I sent a mail to X-Arcade seeing if there was any chance of developing an adapter to use their arcade controllers on older generation machines such as the Amiga.
Their response was that everyone uses emulation these days and said no Who would be interested in using something like an X-arcade on original retro hardware such as the Amiga/ST/C64 etc? If we could get numbers together it might help them realise that some people still run the original thing I wonder how hard it would be to develop an adapter ourselves? hmmm |

Clueless wankers.
Mind you, it wouldn't be at all difficult to wire up a 9-pin connector for the amiga if you can access the solder points on the joystick/buttons. Adding an extra cable & plug would be far easier than trying to make a converter, and itd allow you to have it plugged into two things at once. |

Surely the fact Paul asked them about developing an adaptor for older hardware is conclusive proof in itself that not everybody uses emulation? You would think the penny might drop with them. It's a phenomenally stupid thing to say.

Anyway, I'm talking about wiring up an additional cable with a DB9 plug on it, theres no need to connect any power to the plug, hence no possiblity for damage. |

several people have made them, i have two made by different e-bay sellers, and both great quality (with slightly different functions) and zero latency. i wouldnt use them if there was latency.
@ Hewitson - i suspect that was meant to read 'Playstation 2' not PS/2 and that spiff made the comment based on the previously mentioned 9-pin -> ps2 -> x-arcade technique. :edit: i see Oddb0d knows better than my poor guesswork Last edited by Hungry Horace; 04 March 2008 at 20:08. |

Indeed it does, remember these were originally intended for MAME cabinets hence the keyboard encoder. Spiff's point was that power is supplied on both PS/2 and USB connections which could possibly cause some of the pins on the newly wired DB9 to become live, only having one connection plugged in at a time is a sensible precaution.
@Paul_s: All the parts that make up the X-Arcade are available separately for anyone that wants to build a custom/retro controller (which works out at half the price of the assembled unit BTW) so if you think about it there is very little impetus for them to manufacture an additional adapter. |

It could not cause any of the pins on the DB9 to become live the only thing which is powered is the keyboard encoder. The cable for the DB9 plug would be soldered directly to the buttons & joystick.

It's just one person. You can't expect a company to manufacture a whole new line just for like, what, 10 people?

I didn't say that. I just said it's blatantly false that not everybody uses emulation
