PicassoIV + XS100/RR + Fastlane Z3 issues.

Hi.

I recieved my PicassoIV today. It has been on a trip to Germany for repair. (Thanks MastaTabs!).

When the Xsurf100 is connected the machine acts up. Scsi drives are not recognized. IDE drives shows up. First i thought it might be a poor PSU, but im measuring 5,03v and 12,01v on one of the 4pin connectors. Should i measure somewhere else?

Happens also if i pull the rapidroad from the Xsurf.

have run the Xsurf in both zorro modes.

Xsurf and fastlane works if PicassoIV is pulled...

The PicassoIV itself seems to work great, but i havent installed drivers yet because i have no way to transfer files without network or usb.

I am clueless.

A desktop. a3640 rev3.0 -> 3.1 with cut'n'jumper patch.. Buster11

The placement of the cards seems to have some impact.

If i have this setup the fastlane wont work: PicassoIV, FLZ3, empty, empty.
This setup the fastlane works: PicassoIV, empty, empty, FLZ3.
This setup fastlane dont work: PicassoIV, Xsurf, empty, FLZ3.

I will stick my delfina in the middle of picasso and FLZ3 and see if the same problem occurs...

okay.. did some more testing.

Cards placement: PicassoIV, empty, FLZ3, Xsurf/RR.

If i disconnect the scsi drive and boot from IDE things work a little better.
The ram on the FLZ3 shows up. And everything else is aye ok. Rapidroad works and picasso with drivers work.

This is looking more and more to be an issue with Buster/a3640. The strange thing is that the FLZ3 works
like a charm in buster11 mode getting almost 9mb/s, but with PIV & XS installed.. no go..

Edit: Oh.. I experienced that the FL would boot from scsi with PIV ans XS installed ONCE when i powered the amiga on. It booted into wb, and crashed. Never got it to boot again.

Yes. No hickups with only piv and xs100.

What revision is the Fastlane and does it have all the fixes?

rev2.2 with rom version 8.5.

Fully populated with 64mb ram.

Look @ U209 GAL Chip on A3640. Unless it ends -03, your Fastlane will not work properly because of DMA Issues. C= A4091 suffers the same issue.

Not sure about Silk Screend 3.0's cut'n'jumper patch & U209 being -01.....

A3640's with Silk Screened 3.1 on card edge & U209 -02 will not work with Z3. Upgrade these cards U209 to -03 & all will be fine.

I was suspecting something like this, yes.. But since i got the FL to work 100% on my system before using the PIV i thought i was home free..

Today i upgraded my a3640 up to rev3.2 with with new chips: u209 -03 and u204 -02

Same issue. Scsi wont work on FastlaneZ3 when both PicassoIV and Xsurf100 are installed. Ram on fastlane work fine however.
This is still a DMA issue i think since Ram on Fastlane is PIO and scsi is DMA. AFAIK.

No i have not. yet.

I did some more testing and i can boot from IDE. I dont know if its the 3.2 upgrade that did this or if i could do it before the fix. (dont recall so)
btw I also added Speedgeeks waitstate mod yesterday. (not that i thought that would fix anything, but who knows.. )

Anyhow.. scsi drives are not properly recognized. i can detect them in hdtoolbox and read the drive configuration.
However when i try to install the drive i get "Error 2 in drive description" (sometimes "Error 4").

Then i pull the xsurf100 and i can setup the scsi-drive with no problems.

I dont think its a scsi setup issue since it works flawless on one configuration, but assumption is the mother of all f***ups, so i'll go through everything once more..

Okay, & if only for my own clarity..... With the Xsurf100 removed & forgetting the PicassoIV, what cards are in what slot? - Starting with the Video slot as Slot 1.

Ok.. more testing done. I get "Error 2 in drive description" with only PIV in slot 1 and Fastlane in slot 2 or 3.
Piv in slot 1 and Fastlane in slot 4 works great.. If i then stick xsurf100 in slot 2 or 3 things get messed up again.

Delfina Lite. However this card does not make a difference either way.

Is the Hard drive Terminated?

Presuming just one drive.

Still not sure about a Rev 3.0 A3640 working with Z3, even if U209 is now ending -03

Try another CPU card, even if only an 030....

Also, I would be installing PIV with drivers b4 installing any other cards, but I still have a felling it's the Rev 3.0 A3640 causing the issues you are seeing.
