Sorry ker, but : HA HA
I also wondered how they could survive, but after Prey came out I thought they might make it maybe for another couple of years with Prey 2 and stuff. They also should have thought about Max Payne 3 when they still had the chance. If there is one game studio that quite fucked it up theirselves (with NOT releasing another Duke Nukem game), then it's 3D Realms |

that is very shitty
On the other hand, the only thing that kept them in my memory is all the news about Duke Nukem Forever, so in my opinion it is not a great loss. Now the people working at 3DRealms can spread to other companies and be more productive. |

no matter what, apogee/pinball wizards/3drealms still is one of my favorite developers... I have very fond memories with their games that I played on my 386/486 ...

Same here, Duke Nukem was pretty good but beside that - they were unknown.
Recreated versions of the OMG! Look-what-we-have-done! It's THE Incredible Duke Nukem Forever on various engines looked butt ugly even for it's time, no loss.. Oh well, the company died but the people didn't, so they will join some other team, work on some other things, bla bla bla, here we go again... |

Max Payne? Anyone? They certainly had some brighter moments in the 'ten years waiting for DNF' period, but it's their own fault. They had a gem and let it rot till they went broke. Well done 3D Realms

Oh, right, Max Payne! LOL
Funny, cause I honestly don't remember their logo in MP but consider it an icon of DN... |

Yeah, they just produced it and you can't see it anywhere on the box. Just the Remedy and Gathering of Developers logos. Makes you wonder if they really 'developed' DNF the last 10 years without any success...
You can see how Epic Games with a similar 'background' got it right and still produces popular games. Seems they did it a bit different |

for Monster Bash and Shadow Warrior But... but... it's such a long time ago I know what you mean Keropi, but let's face it that they haven't done anything after Duke Nukem 3D (btw. Duke Nukem 1 & 2 are really nice too )

And don't forget that 3D platformer Duke Nukem game, haha, it got 10/10 points from a total Duke Nukem freak back when it was released, in the biggest sell-out mag - CD-Action

NOOOOOOOooooo....! The game was almost completed damnit! Almost done... I truly hope the company will bounce back somehow, or be reformed under a new studio.
Man... I've been waiting for Duke since 1998! |

maybe not Duke Nukem Forever, but they'll be crazy not to exploit the IP. My guess is that another company will get a crack at making a Duke FPS.

I read all about it in the 3D Realms Forums. Needless to say, this piece of news definitely sucks ass, but I'm rather kind of skeptical as to how the company could stay alive for so long without ever releasing a new game in about 13 years or so. I mean the last game they ever developed themselves was Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior and THAT was back in '96-'97.
Games like Manhattan Project, Max Payne, and Prey do not count, since 3D Realms only published those games, not developed them. Either way, I grew up with Apogee/3D Realms, and I felt like a piece of computer gaming has died because of this. |

Erm, of course they count since they earned their money that way. If you mean that the company itself was already dead for 13n years I would tend to agree
