Wii into retro console

Wonder has anyone tried emulation on Wii. I have one laying around, but I am kind of hesitant to modify it.

Anyone has experience with emulation on Wii?

Best thing Wii can do is GameCube with nintendont, I wouldn't bother with anything else use a pie or Android instead

yes - but from what I learned from doing it was that it was a huge pain in the arse to get anywhere. The homebrew channel "app store" would frequently hard lock the wii and I eventually gave up on the entire thing after a while.

Would recommend getting a RasPi or HTPC with a bit of grunt for it.

I've used emulators on the Wii and they're OK.

The Wii isn't that powerful so even though there is an Amiga emulator for the Wii I wouldn't recommend it.

The SNES, MegaDrive etc emulators worked mostly fine however.

That does seem like a quicker, easier and more versatile solution in 2019

I already use both, RPi and Android (as well Original xBox, windows & Linux) for emulation. I just wonder how I can use something that is currently just collecting dust, since we also have Wii U that plays all Wii games. I would not run anything more powerful than SNES/MegaDrive and possibly some old DOS titles. (DukeNukem 1 * 2, Biomenace etc.)

Thank you for comments!

Surely the Wii is considerably more powerful than a Raspberry Pi?

In any case I would suggest modding the Wii U. It's a fantastic machine to mod, very easy and I've had no problems whatsoever with lockups, etc.

I really enjoy playing megadrive games on my wii. Install homebrew and the emulators, you won't regret it! Using the wii classic controllers is a nice touch too, but wiimotes work fine.

Over here you can get wii's for like $20 from second hand stores.

Wii plays very good:
NES, snes, gamecube, master system, mega drive, gb/gbc, gba
And n64 to some degree, also plays arcades via retroarch-mame 2000 core perfectly. Also perfect ZX spectrum via retroarch-fuse. The Amiga emulator is an sdl port, I would say it's average.

Wii is mostly if you have a crt tv connected to it because it can output original resolutions 240p/224p etc.

If you have a Wii U then surely install the WiiUBru Homebrew Launcher and Appstore?

The CPU in the WiiU is more powerfull than the Wii and has Retr0Arch

Can you soft-mode Wii U?

I did not check Wii U scene, is the process much different form installing Homebrew launcher and appstore on Wii?

Yes, it can be soft modded with a CFW (Custom FirmWare) to add Homebrew Launcher and appstore:

I've tried emulators on Wii and wasn't impressed. Like ransom1122 says , best thing you can do is get Nintendont on it with a fat memory stick full of Gamecube games.
I'm kind of obsessed with GT CUBE at the moment. And Billy Hatcher. That game is about a boy in a chicken suit, so it should be rubbish but is actually awesome.

I find the Wii a fantastic soft mod solution. Add a 500GB external HD and fill with Wii games. Put a 64GB sd card for Gamecube and Wiiware which can include N64, SNES and Megadrive, Arcades including PCEngine. Yeah its not a complete solution but if you have one sitting around its crazy not to softmod it as a small footprint solution to take anywhere.

I have NES, SNES GBA and Megadrive emulators running on it. They're all very good and accessible from home screen once you install banners for them.

ScummVM is particularly great on Wii. Point'n'click with Wiimote is not just novel, it's actually a good match for the controller. Everything up to Monkey Island 3 runs very well with it.

I wouldn't bother actually emulating any computers, there are better solutions for that.
