i have an idea for automatic swap disk
sorry if there is another thread about this idea ???? put all your disk in the list of disk swapper and when the amiga ask for an another disk winuae put automatically the next one on the list in the df0? Is it possible for winuae to know when the game ask for a disk ? It could be great for games who don't use df1: df2 etc And in the worst case if the game ask for the disk 1 after the 3 and finally the 2 we could make a list like this disk 1 , disk 3 ,disk 2 and we could put more than one time a disk on the list if needed, sometimes games ask for the disk 1,4,2,3,4 we will have just to adapt the list in the same way ! If this is possible ? ps:sorry if it's a stupid idea or if there is another post with this idea or if it's too hard to implement And finally sorry for my bad english hope you understand me ?

I know where your comming from, multi disk games that use DF0: only for loading.
Agree if the disk swap list has only the current the game disks on it. Arranged in any order. The game should find the disk it needs automatically from the list. Blinking bad programming one disk use for multi disk games. Off topic: The drive selection on the list is a bit hit and miss. A droplist to select which drive to use for a disk would be easy. For games that do use multi floppy's and disk drives access. |

It is impossible to detect (without AI) when/if game needs another floppy disk. There are many ways to detect disk changes.. Like reading single track continuously until proper data is read.. or polling dskready-signal (and possibly never checking if "new" disk is the correct one..) and so on..

Was it only possible to connect four floppy drives to an amiga. I thought it was more with daisy chain pass through. If more was allowed, it would be good for game playing large multi game disks.

I don't think more were allowed.
I had a zip disk in my A1200 and it used to default to DF4: so I presume DF0 - DF3 where the only devices reserved for floppy drives. |

Maybe it was someother device that allowed for this... Possibly it was a catweasel or other floppy controller. That allowed it, not the amiga hardware.
