You had probably clicked on the 2019 thread which is just a few threads below this one. Last year we could indeed choose the car (but the Esprit was the only sensible choice as it gave 4x score).

Most probably this is the case. But maybe this 2019 rule has also been accidentally copy/pasted in the op of the 2020 thread, from which I quote.

Such a challenging set of tracks. I can win the first four, but then frequently don't even qualify from the woodland level, and the last two times I reached desert I ran out of fuel. I'm doing worse at these the more I play them

Yeah, I've tried a few more times and can't beat my first score. I'll do better in one race then worse in another.

Recorded this play with the x265vfw codec. Turns out there was no sound recorded, VirtualDub can't process x265 and Youtube doesn't accept x265.
Converted it to x264 with ffmpeg and then cropped and resized with VirtualDub.
Next time I'll use the x264vfw codec again.

...which is weird because I definitely finished it the first two times without refueling. And I did try to conserve fuel by gliding through corners.

Well done John, I can't seem to do it anywhere near as well as you do in your video.
