If i run 'version 68040.library' in the shell i get 46.5 - does this sound like i am using the new library? should i just do away with dummy/old/new and replace the old library with the new phase 5 one?

OK, i just replaced the original commodore 68040.library with the phase 5 one and all works well (getting rid of old/new/dummy etc). i have also modifed the post above.

Also, is there a thread or definitive list of the best versions of standard libraries?

@JL

I'm also using the Phase 5 v46.5 68040 library with my A4000 / A3640 & found it stopped random crashes & improved overall stability so I would stick with it for sure.
