Two Questions:

1. How can you tell if the SCSI cable has a terminator on it?

2. I've been considering getting an internal CD drive that provides termination. Would that satisfy the termination requirement?

If you put the CD drive on the end of the cable, then yes, that would work.

This is a SCSI cable with a terminator. They are usually advertised as "with terminator"

Well I need a SCSI cable with two connectors on it anyway (mine only has the one) so I might as well pick up one with a terminator on it and save myself some trouble. Thanks for the info.

Where's the best place to get an internal SCSI CD drive that works with the Amiga? Ebay?

Put a wanted add on Amibay and scour e-bay for a bargain.
As you live in the states then there are more choices for SCSI stuff and cheaper postage.

You should try and get a 50 pin SCSI1/2 CD drive.

I assume anything fancy like a DVD/CD combo drive won't work right?

Only as a cd drive I guess.

It will work as a DVD drive too, but the discs need to be ISO9660, not UDF.

I use 36gb ultra 160 LVD 68pin Fujitsu drives with my A2000 on a GVP 4008 HC+8 with adapters, just make sure termination is turned on on the last device in the scsi chain and the drive is set to the correct SCSI ID and is set to Narrow.

When partitioning, HDTools will try and cut the drive into 2 partitions, delete them both and create a partition at the start of the drive under 4gb.

Leave the rest of the drive free which you can take care of later with IDEfix.

Sorry to bump this thread again, but I finally got around to trying this out. So far I'm having trouble getting HDToolBox to read the drive properly (see this thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=1088293) but I'm also seeing some Guru Meditation errors when I first start the drive. It takes a minute or so before anything happens, then it will Guru (8000 0003) then after a second or two it will boot my WB 3.1 disk. This never happened with my old 1GB SCSI drive so I'm wondering if there's some power draw issue? After re-reading this thread I'm also a bit nervous about possible heat issues.

As luck would have it, I've come into possession of an external SCSI enclosure that I'm thinking about using instead. I'd rather try and get it working internally with my GVP Series II Impact 8+, but even that presents some problems as the adapter I'm using for the UltraSCSI to SCSI conversion blocks the power plug. If I do go with the external enclosure, would it just plug into the back of the GVP card?
