Powering a fan on A1200 accelerator, best solution?
I have a card with overclocked 060 on it (Its an apollo card). There is a place where you could supposedly solder the wires to a 12V fan directly to the card. (it says so on the back of the card, next to the cpu socket).
However, I also have a molex connector /splitter attached to the internal floppy power connector. From that one it goes to a dual molex (one powers the CF card) then the other molex splits into several FAN connectors.. However these are "big" the kind that you fit larger fans to (like say a 120mm chassi fan on a PC). The fans I got for my Apollo are tiny and use the small (2.36mm I think) connector. I got several fans to choose from. Most are 5V and at least one is 12V. So I need a little help here: First of all, what would you say is the best solution, regardless of what I have right now. Second.. what voltage do I get from the floppy connector, is it 5V or 12V? Or does the connector have both and the cable "decides" what pins are being used? Thanx in advance.. |

I have two fans on my 1260 - one on the back which is powered by the card itself.
The other one on the front runs off the 12v floppy power connector. Connected to the 12v floppy power pins is a splitter - one end goes to the floppy, the other connects to a further splitter which provides some 3 pin connectors for fans. This allows me to run a 12v 40x40x10mm fan. Cant you get a CF card adapter that powers itself off the ide pins rather than a molex? |

Yep, that's how mine works.
I think it depends on whether you have a 40 pin or 44 pin adapter, that was certainly the case with sd card adapters. Could be wrong though. |

My setup is similar, but I have a Molex coming straight off the power input at the other end, which powers 2 small case fans.

The Floppy connector has both 5V and 12V available, and provided the splitters you use are wired correctly, the fan should get the correct voltage from the connector.

Thanx all,
my first problem right now is to find an adapter to connect those tiny 2.36mm 2-pion fans to a (big) 4-pin fan connector. |
