Sounds great.
FAB (Française Amiga Board) is a much better acronym than EAB

Noticed a new spam account: bareboatti61

Went into the Moderator Control Panel and typed in "bareb" to find this...

...look like he's creating multiple accounts:

All permanantly banned now

I take it banning ip ranges is out of the question? Or are these users connecting via a vpn?

A VPN is possible. They or he always seems to be in the New York area or the USA in general.
An annoying twonk wherever he is! This has turned into a battle of wills now and I can't see it ending soon.

I thought they would have gotten bored by now considering they are banned / threads deleted pretty quickly but it's been going on for 6 months solid now

Yeah, just getting fun out of extracting the urine and thinking they've got one up on someone I think.

And another as we speak! Advertising Brother printer care now.
Looking at the text it seems a VPN is more likely as they or he has very broken English.
Either that or it's a copy and paste just to be annoying!

Yup, in the support.WinUAE section also... they usually post in the Amiga scene section...

Already dealt with before I saw your post

No doubt the twonk will be back.
Must realise no one is ever clicking his links or will do in future.
What a drongo!

How is this exactly possible/ Did this "person" have different IPs every time and are they radically different or coming form the same root? Can they really not be range restricted even if temporarily?

I also cannot believe this is an actual person, because of this behavior. You think they would have gotten the hint after six, SIX! months. So annoying.

Let's say the IP range comes from an area that doesn't affect EAB much as in, a minority of actual users, hopefully none at all, are not located within those ranges, couldn't we enforce a maybe temporary (say 6 month) ban on anyone coming from that location? Like, ban the whole city, or ISP, or whatever, to even LOOK At the board. If this is an actual person and they find they can't access the site any longer, hopefully they'll give up.

I'm still not 100% sure this is a person. This article is interesting regarding how can a bot "solve" a captcha: https://arstechnica.com/information-...g-my-captchas/

RCK will need to answer all your questions Akira.

...doubt it's a real person too.

Trust me, I could give you plenty more examples of the above where they basically use a similar member name everytime they register

Some random idea...
Charge a little money from newcomers. No money, no way to post anything. Once they've been confirmed (after a few legit posts), give the money back. And, of course, don't refund spammers.

Oh yeah sure that's going to go down really well and not add a HUGE burden to the admin and moderators of the board

Moderated posts for newcomer is the most logical step. It's done in several forums since years for the same reason.

It's not worse than having to moderate first n posts (as was suggested) and having, in the same time, to still deal with spammers directly.

Yeah of course it is worse, because you will be forcing legit newcomers to INPUT THEIR CREDIT CARD?PAYMENT DETAILS INTO A FORUM and have the administrator deal with the HUGE responsibility of that. Also can you not imagine the backlash? And RCK has to implement an "ecommerce/payment" system just for this shit?? And what happens if that system gets compromised and data leaked??

How many times in your life have you input payment data to get post access a forum?? Have you even seen anything like that which doesn't offer access to ographic or illegal shit or other shady stuff like that?

Guys, I definitely think it's time that new members' posts need to be moderated / approved by GMs first before showing in the forum... say their first 5 posts or something like that.

Yes it's more work for GMs; as said previously, better than the current alternative...

...but I think we also need some new GMs. At the moment it's really only myself, CodyJarrett and lilalurl

In March Graham Humphrey stepped down as a GM and is now a Moderator instead. BippyM threw in the towel the other day due to work / family commitments. DH, PortuguesePilot and prowler are all having major personal issues which I won't disclose.

Why did nobody block names like *Zort or bearboa* after the spammers started to reuse this pattern?

...then they will just use another variation.

I could give you at least 10 - 15 others that do the same thing
