NytroX86 Where in cornwall are you? I probably know somewhere
local you can get the battery you need (I recently moved from cornwall)... Ignore most of what Akira says or you'll end up with a fried board. The white stuff on one end of the battery is probably corrosion on the battery, it may well have already leaked which would explain the weird time keeping, or it may be the battery is only holding a very small charge (just enough to almost keep the clock going), they do this when they are old. A NiCAD battery will cost you less than £5 and any electrical repair shop will be able to replace it for you, or I know people in cornwall who can do it for you. |

I'd take Severin's advice there Nytro, you can buy the battery from Maplin, Tandy or a local electronics store for less than a fiver, and most electronics stores would be able to change it over.
Altering it so it takes the button cells (like PC mobo batteries) is a bit more involved as you need to add a diode with the battery so the charging current can go somewere other than the battery. You should be able to find details on Aminet, as it's the same mod you do to an A4000 battery (for the same reason). |

Thanks guys. I know there is a Tandy near by, called the Leisure Drome now but its basically the same. For Severin, I'm less than a mile from the main St. Austell town, near Sandy Hill and Mount Charles schools. You might also know what used to be the Cornish Ford (Vospers now I think) and also close is a road with a couple of banks, a convenience store and some other little shops.

I recommend the same thing as Syko, I don't know why should it be ignored. Replacing the battery for a button cell type is good because in case the battery gets dry, you can leave it there without the fear of corrosion by battery acid.
Of course if you are not up to the task, and have no one who can do it for you, forget it. I have a friend who performs all these mods for me. |
