Settle The World - inspired by Colonization

Theo Theoderich is working a game for the Amiga Blitz Basic Game Jam called 'Settle the World'.

Some screenshots:

Here's a short video: [ Show youtube player ]
and a long video: [ Show youtube player ]

Plus an article on the German site Amiga News

Looks really interesting

Oh wow, it clearly has "Colonization" as its role model.
I guess you can't go wrong with that!

I believe it was written in C as its very Amiga friendly and runs well on Workbench.

Sid Meier games are written in C for IBM compatibles, then ported. I don't see how he could pull that simulation stuff in assembly

Wow that looks really nice! Love colonization, the 1994 original. But I would love a more colorful Colonization even more.

The target is Amiga 1200. If that means AGA graphics isn't clear.

On a1k.org where Theo is active they talk about that or at least using the same set of instruments.

Any strategy game is ambitious, difficult buggers to create no matter in what era they're made.

Looks great, yes. Now the big question will be: how will it set itself apart? Because those screens look virtually identical, to be fully honest. And the original still exists. Looking forward to see how it will develop!

yeah, having high hopes its more than just "the same thing as before, but now made in blitz".

In the screenshot I see governmental elections and in the videos I see for example capturing of wild horses. So that already says that this is going to be Colonization++ and not just a simple rehash.

I don't see any natives yet though. Perhaps that still needs to be implemented.

I really like the idea that you can get a game over if you don't get re-elected

One of the key differences is that this game is intended to be primarily multiplayer - you're not battling against an AI opponent, but another human.

That German article says (translated) that SP mode is also planned, but "it will be all the more difficult because there are no trading partners.".

Bit of a letdown, since MP is of no interest to me. Hopefully they will manage to get the single player up and running at some point too.
