If you buy a Saturn make 100% sure you get one with ROUND BUTTONS.
The buttons are an indication of what is known as a 21-pin Saturn. It is much easier to find cheap modchips for this model, whereas the oval buttoned 20-pin Saturn is almost impossible to chip. I bought mine off ebay. I just saved a local search (Sega Saturn within 10 miles) and I got 2-3 hits per week until I found a nice boxed one with all the original packaging for £10 collected. Oh and remember that you'll almost certainly need a replacement CR2032 coin battery. (£2 at most supermarkets) This site will become your best friend when it comes to Saturn accessories : http://www.robwebb1.plus.com/saturn/saturnhard.htm |

Hi Peter,
Its not really what your looking for but, if you get stuck.. I'd consider selling mine. Its a MK1 in good (sorry not immaculate) condition. Loads of games, some fair condition, some good-very good a couple are mint examples. Boxed: Wipeout, Sonic Jam, Worldwide Soccer 97, Virtua Fighter 2, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, World Cup Golf, Athlete Kings, Doom, Street Fighter Alpha, Destruction Derby, Road Rash, Thunderhawk 2, Virtua Racing, Dayton USA, Battle Arena Toshiden, Nights, Quake, Resident Evil, Loaded, Sega Ages Vol1, F1 Challenge, Sega Rally, Manx TT, Virtua Cop 2. Unboxed: Duke Nuken 3D, Earthworm Jim 2, Die Hard Trilogy. Analogue pad, 2 light guns, TV Lead & backup cartridge. The box is 'very' tatty but I have it. This was all picked up at varius boot sales hence the condition but it is working although needs a new clock/backup battery. Shame I sold my original Saturn years ago, as with all my stuff bought from new it was as minty as a polo. Let me know if you're at all interested. Steve. |

If you have any experience in soldering or you know someone who is, I strongly recommend fitting :
A two way 50Hz/60Hz switch http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/saturn5060.htm And a three-way USA, EU, JAP region switch http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/saturnregion.htm Makes your Saturn experience much better. |

No worries mate, I know it isn't exactly what you're looking for but since I work in Bromley, location, etc might make it viable.
No rush, its just something I would consider selling to help fund my Tower LOL... Can I tempt you in a Sega Dramcast |

The number of pins on the drive controller is irrelevant for the chips sold by Rob Webb aka consolegoods (which is the link I provided above). |

I have my eye on one or two Saturns at the moment...
I live very close to Raven Games - who I believe still do these types of Modifications - I will check as this would save me the postage sending a Saturn to and from Console Goods - however Console Goods look to install switchless mods with lovely LEDS!!! |

Probably best to make sure it is a UK model then you don't need a stepdown transformer.

Thanks Mick AKA
I got a Saturn today - I am very pleased with it - it is in mint condition! I will be certain to take a look around The Sega Saturn Forum as there will be some valuable information over there for me! One annoying thing - I spoke to Raven Games today and they are quoting up to three months turn around time to do any console modifications at the moment which is a pain because it now means I will have to send my Saturn away to get the 50/60 and US/JAP/UK mods done and of course I will now have to pay postage there and back... oh well. |

3 months aint too bad. And I bet they get it done in 2 days.
Play the games you got for a while and when you get bored and it would just be living under your bed, take it round. |

Apparently the technician that they use at the moment is just working very slowly - I get the impression that they are not 100% happy with the way he works... maybe I will leave it a while and see if they get anyone else on board who works a bit quicker (or take your advice Alex)
I do fancy the switchless LED mod thought details here... Click |

It's sounds so crap to me. Instead of flicking two switches, full control with the action taking a fraction of a second, you have to remember how many times you have to press the reset button or something.

What lovely, shiny LED's to show off... well I guess it is a bit over the top but they do the switch option as well... |
