issues on real amiga with 8gb cf drive
Hi
I've setup ClassicWB on an 8GB flash drive with a 'Games' drive as DH2. It's all working fine in WinUAE - the drive boots up perfectly. I can run igame, select all WHDLoad games and run them fine. There are "System", "Work" and "Games" icons on the desktop (with the whdload games in "Games"). On my A1200 though the 'Games' drive fails to show up on the desktop, and igame just asks me to insert A-Games every time a game is clicked in the list. Any ideas? Thanks |

If you have used the FFS filestystem then you have hit the classic 4gb barrier that that filesystem has, reformat the CF using the PFS3 aio filesystem and copy your backup to the new CF using Dopus or just drag and drop and this will solve your problem

Hi
Thanks - what actually happened was that this was previously working on the A1200 (setup by fitzsteve some years ago), but then one day the "games" drive was no longer showing up on ClassicWB (after months of it being fine). So I thought I'd test it by loading it in WinUAE. It shows up and works fine in that, so I don't understand what's wrong.. |

Was the card previously FFS when it was working or did you prep a new card to use? Also were you using loadmodule and an updated scsi.device to get the extra partitions up? maybe you have accidentally edited it out of your startup sequence or deleted/moved the scsi.device file from devs?

Hi
I've not touched anything in WB since it was working. Hardware wise, I'm running an A1200 with 2mb chip ram. Hmm... I *have* changed the accelerator I'm using though since my old ACA1231 with 64mb ram failed. Looking back I wouldn't be surprised if it's been since then that the "Games" drive has not been showing up, but I can't say for certain if that's the case. It's been replaced with a blizzard 1230-MKII with 32mb ram. version scsi.device outputs version 40.12 typing dh2: in a shell shows me "dh2:: not enough memory available". That sounds like a typical error message when using an old incompatible scsi.device for bigger drives (the default one loaded from rom on boot). Try using a newer one (43.45) with loadmodule (both on aminet) and see if that fixes it for you.

I tried replacing the scsi.device as per the tutorial video on the classicwb site, but on rebooting I get the guru meditation . I'll run hddreport and post the output as suggested thanks.

Your problem is indeed the missing update of scsi.device and/or the fact that you use SFS.
SFS can only work with large harddrives if scsi.device is updated. That it works in WinUAE is because your config is inaccurate. If you'd choose an A1200 config and changed the HDD's controller from UAE to IDE, then you would have the same problem in WinUAE, too. SFS is a disadvantageous choice for such a small CF card. Up to 8000 MB can be used without an update for scsi.device if the file system uses SCSI commands. PFS3AIO does this for example. With PFS3AIO you could use the entire CF card without any other patch. If you don't want to reformat the CF card you could try NSDPatch. It changes scsi.device so that NSD commands like used by SFS are translated into SCSI commands which scsi.device supports. 8000 MB is still the limit, though. |

Thanks - I see. Any reason you can think of why this was working until I replaced my accelerator?
I'm quite new to all of this - would you mind giving me a pointer or two on where or find/how to apply the nsdpatch? Thanks again. |

When I setup your CF card I probably used the Maprom function of your ACA card to patch the scsi.device (assuming you had the ACA at the time I set it up)
I probably used SFS for your card if it was a few years ago, last two years it would have been PFS3 AIO (this probably did not exist when I setup your card) edit: look in Devs: do you have a .rom file in there? If it's classic workbench you can drop an updated scsi.device right in there and it will take care of patching for you. |

Hi Steve,
You probably don't remember me, I came to yours and you installed the card when I had the accelerator... and you sold me a CM-8833 also I don't have a .rom file in Devs. I already tried copying A1200IDE.scsi.device from System:MyFiles/LargeHD/128GB_Support/SCSI_v43_24/Patched/ (and renaming it scsi.device), but on reboot this just guru meditations until I remove that file again. Cheers |

Just to say... If getting this to work is not easy, I'm ok with re-formatting and setting up from scratch again with PFS3 AIO. I'll check for a guide on how to do that. I'd rather get it to work tho

Thanks - same guru meditation with 43.45. I assume I am doing it correctly? I am just copying the A1200 file from the folder in System:MyFiles/LargeHD/128GB_Support for the version you mentioned, then renaming in Devs to scsi.device. Then just rebooting.
Cheers |

Power down the amiga fully after you install the scsi.device file. If you still get the guru then you could try one of the others. I'd be happy to setup the card with pfs3 aio for you if you can't resolve.

Thanks for the offer... I've just watched your youtube tutorial here

I think I'll try this myself. I don't think I have the pfs3_aio-handler file though. I'll be trying it with the full classic workbench v28 (I have WB 3.1 disks). Could you please point me to the psf3 file? Thanks again |

PFS3_AIO can be found here: http://aminet.net/search?query=pfs3aio.
Would have posted this last night but Aminet was down for some reason. |
