Nitro was pretty damn good. Loved the character portraits. I just wished they'd implemented the pedestrians that were mentioned in the manual. The Death Race 2000 vibe would have been even better.

My brother and his friend played a lot of Super Off Road Racing, but I could never get the control scheme (with the controls being relative to the vehicle, not to the screen)

Besides the ones mentioned SC/SCII/Indy heat/Badlands etc.. I thought I should mention this one as it was one of my favourites as well.

Argh this thread has given me a head hurt.
I (think I) remember an Amiga racing game that went like this. I'm pretty sure you raced in minis, the track was mostly dirt (maybe like rallying), it was fixed screen (so no scrolling), the cars were really small, it was shown at an elevated angle like Indy Heat. Not sure if it was multi-player. There were short-cuts I seem to remember which really slowed you down but saved a lot of distance, and there might well have been those like of Dunlop bridges that you raced under. I've been through the list at http://oagd.net/browse/racing and it's none of them. Anyone have an idea? It might have been a non-english game maybe, it certainly wasn't a game I had seen advertised or read about. |

Yeah Micro Machines was ace and Nitro as well, the rest just don't get any plays from me anymore. There's a fun one called Jupiter's Masterdrive, and Super Off Road grows on you (the title music does not as I recall).
Also found these which I haven't played http://hol.abime.net/2187 http://hol.abime.net/2548 http://hol.abime.net/2784 http://hol.abime.net/479 |
