lha buffering
Is there any way to get lha to buffer the archived file on the hard drive instead of ram. I have 16 megs of ram, but I am trying to lha a 35 meg file. It gets to about 22megs then freezes. The ram disk is full only a few k left in both fast and chip ram. I was wnting it to buffer to the hard drive so I can archive the whole file.

Does it have to be an lha? I know for a fact that zip will work, if you have your heart set on using an archiver that's native to the amiga then LZX will probably do what you want.

Hmm... maybe I missing something but LHA shouldn`t use so much memory. In the lha.guide you can read this:
2.11 Using as little memory as possible "When using the default settings, LhA requires about 300KB to archive, and 180KB to extract files." [...] Do you mean you try to archive to RAM-Disk instead? If yes, you can select any target for archives. BTW. There is a option for faster file add that is maybe useful: -Qq (add) Quick add Just have a look into the guide. |

Stopped when I saw the false assumption. If you have a bad lha cruncher and there is no better version, you'll have to do it on a non-Amiga. Personally, I suspect file name/file system trouble.

You can specify a work directory for temp files with the option "-w".
