Old cracking groups and Todays cracking groups

Todays cracking groups such as class, paradox etc still take after the old Amiga groups of the past.

I downloaded a no-cd crack for a game the other day (this is not illegal btw) and it came with that cool home-made amiga style music playing in the background and also had a small graphical demo such as the ones at the start of Amiga games ( e.g superfrog)

It seems that the new groups are still sticking to old values.

What are your views on current cracking groups?

It's kind of funny you mention you Class & Paradox as both of those groups have very deep scene roots, back to the C=64 in fact. Paradox was one of the top Amiga cracking groups and Class was started by some guys from Prestige who were also active on the Amiga around 94-95.

Personally I don't think all that much has changed except for the size of the scene overall, the same old ragging still goes on, a similar proportion of bad cracks get released but the majority work well (those clone releases are a bit of a joke though). I'm probably not as cynical as some of the old-timers but that's only because sceners come and sceners go, lamers (i.e. me) are here for the long haul

lamers or leechers .

I like leeching but sucked on the old boards as they wanted the lastest stuff, and when your not in a group, wtf are you supposed to upload especially because you just wanted to leech stuff from 85-93 and TOSEC wasn't around.

The greatest Amiga cracker resides on this board. A legend...a colossal giant, astride the Amiga 1000 to WinUAE...none other than Fairlight/FLT.

Though he is now a full time transvestite.

One thing really pisses me of at todaya cracking groups.
They don`t care about cracktros anymore. You only have thoose lame nfo files in each release. nfo files are OK for checking the specs of an release. In the good old days, there were of coure also nfo files. But the were also cracktros on 99% of the releases.

There was a big cracktro scene on the PS1. But there is nothing on todays Ps2 releases.

WHY ????????????

sorry galahad not to doubt your Skills, but I'm a bit of a N.O.M.A.D fan , but still at least FLT is still active on the amiga scene.

Yes, that surprised me for although Galahad is good I'm not sure WHO is the best or the most popular... maybe a PRE-Poll is needed where everyone can throw names into the hat before a proper poll? Oh yes.. another poll!!!

Sorry, when it comes to cracking and demoscene in general, i'm very much more partial to the C-64 side than Amiga...

Fairlight, was indeed one of the finest even there

good question Plasmatron, maybe the protections are too hard and requires a lot of time, or just we have new groups that ignore how beatifuls are cracktors. Or maybe like in gba scene they don't wanna pass like groups who modify a dumped rom, and the renaming dat ppl is happy.

But the way, I don't remember the game in your avatar? what is it ?

Actually I was doing a search on some old NZ amiga groups, and one of the groups today had a shout out to 'nukebusters'.

hmm perhaps throwing a intro on a release may take too much time and then a different group gets the credit for releasing it first?!

yes they gets lot of credit for first release in some category.
I don't remember if an intro give more credit, but on gba scene I think yes.

Does anyone know what happened to Quartex, Skid Row or Tristar? Are they still alive after all those years?

Quartex: Hard to say, they did a bunch of GBA releases in '01/'02 and a couple of Apps last year, definitely not active but not confirmed dead either.
Skid Row: Last seen releasing trainers for PC, site at http://skidrow.dk/ looks fairly well abandoned.
Tristar: Merged with Red Sector Inc. in 1990, some releases on GBA, PC + an aborted attempt at a DVDR section last year. Most likely sleeping cos 'Legends never die'

A little TRSI related trivia, Muffler of Scoopex put out his first CD on TRSI/Fairlight Records, he is now very well known in the Drum & Bass community having released dozens of records for a variety of different labels.

I don`t think that it takes that much time to link an intro in front of a game.
I think that the kids are not interested in cracktros anymore. Don`t understand that realy.

It was so exciting to come home with a bunch of disks, and check out the latest cracktros.
The game was often secondary.

Hi, Not in QTX any longer but still around (occasionally). I was involved in many of the later amiga releases and a fair number of those gba trainers.
