Kickstart 3,1 in Ver 5 A500

Is there a dummies version of a how to for altering the kickstart rom to work in a REV 5 A500?

We are talking, which is pin 1 dummy.

Picked up kipper2ks new board and a 3.1 kickstart rom from amikit, then found out that it needs to be altered to work.

Here is a link to some info for you

this is info from that link

For the record, the CORRECT way to install the KS3.1 ROM in a rev 5 A500 is:

Bend pin 31 of ROM out.
Solder wire from ROM pin 21 to bent-up pin 31 of ROM.
Attach wire from pin 1 to pin 31 of SOCKET.
Install ROM so ROM pin 31 does not contact SOCKET pin 31.

At first, I built a "ROM tower" to carry the pin 1-31 connection, but
then I got a Blizzard Turbo Memory board for the A500 and the ROM tower
was too tall. Instead, I've since been running with a piece of wire-wrap
wire wedged into the pin 1 and pin 31 holes of the socket...

Works perfectly for me.

here is some info ifound on pin numbering that Pwowler listed...

The reason why this was even up for debate back then was, that the modification for EPROMs is different than the modification for mask ROMs.

For a mask ROM (2.04 upgrade) it's enough to solder a wire from 1 to 31. For an EPROM it's not enough, as the EPROM uses pin 31 to determine 8 vs 16 bit operation. If you don't take care that the EPROM is always in 16-bit mode, it no workee. :-)

Naturally people already knew about the mask ROM modification from the 2.04 days and that info was constantly brought up as a recipe for the EPROMs as well. People had to be educated. :-)
