AWeb on a 4 MB machine?

Someone had success on trying to use AWeb on a AGA 4MB machine, or would like to say your insights about it? I am using one and would like to browse the web and see some images with it, but it crashes very often.

Hi, I have 64MB of ram in my A1200 and AWEB still crashes, usually within minutes of use. I use Ibrowse and its rock solid on basic web sites. I'm posting using Ibrowse now ;-)

Hmm. I installed IBrowse 1 on my WinUAE and looks very nice, its faster and less resource hungry (despite using MUI) than AWeb... But one thing: it doesnt support CSS as AWeb does, at least mine. And doesnt allow me to change the browser id, which is even worse...

But I liked it. Its much better than AWeb.

Do you know of any version of IBrowse that supports these things???

Leandro, Aweb does not support CSS!

On 68k, only OWB, NetSurf and Merlin (still in beta) support CSS.

Ibrowse, AMosaic, Voyager, Aweb, Chimera, and ALynx dont support CSS

I dont believe you will have CSS with just 4MB!

Oh, sorry. I know very little about HTML/CSS.

I thought that AWeb handled CSS because it can handle the pages with CSS nicely when I set the browser id to Internet Explorer 4, hidding all the CSS tags of the pages.

So, the problem is that in IBrowse 1.16 the CSS tags insist to appear at the top of the page.

Well now I know that AWeb doesnt have CSS, which is already a good start, now the only thing I would need to know is if newer versions of IBrowse can display Google without that ugly text at the top of the page...

You seem to be using an old version of Ibrowse. The latest Ibrowse is 2.?, you can download the demo from the Ibrowse web site. Google search will reveal all.

You could always try Gigamem or similar (virtual memory for os3.x). Works pretty nicely, althoug obviously can slow things down a little when swapping.

One thing I learned the hardway with Gigamem though is to trust it when it tells you using PFS may cause problems. I decided to ignore the warnings thinking that if it causes problems I can just uninstall it only to have it corrupt all my partitions file systems.

Great. Does anybody know where can I get the Gigamem adf?

Edit: Ok, it's in the file server, Tosec, Applications , but it needs MMU.

For machines without an MMU a program I am trying now is MemOptimizer, it flushes memory after an amount of seconds, and I am getting good results.

MemOptimizer also frees Chip-RAM so Workbench can show more icons and Multiview pictures. And it needs fery few resources. So its good for everyone that wants to fine-tune Chip-RAM usage on their machine.

For small machines with very few Fast-RAM, look also for AnyMEM, it redirects the Fast-RAM usage to whatever memory you have on your system, whatever comes first or is better for you.

And at last, good also is NewAllocMem, it is a new allocator for AmigaOS that is fully compatible with the original, instead of TLSFMem or PoolMem thats is totally imcompatible with badly written programs. Its also faster than the original and does the correct job of flushing memory too (so its a companion to MemOptimizer).
