1000 miglia

just looking at the latest tosec update and it seems there is no fully working adf version of 1000 miglia, the protection checks fail in the game at some point.
searched a few threads and it seems others would like a working version of this game.
there does not seem to be an ipf for this game so i was wondering if anyone has a 100% working extended adf or if anyone is planning on making a good cracked adf?

Try the disk from the WHDLoad install. Rename disk.1 to disk.adf.

i did not know you could do that, i will try it now.

edit - just tried it but it's the same goonies disk with the same crc which will fail. i still don't know much about how whdload works but i don't think the protection checks have been removed from the disk.1 itself so just renaming the disk.1 from the whdload archive wont result in a working proper cracked adf.

does the game use manual protection only or does it have both manual and software protection? the original version on the EAB server works until it asks the first aptitude test question but without the test card there is no way of answering it.
i suspect the game has software protection as well has manual or else it would be common knowledge that the game works fine so long as you have the test card for the manual codes.

So, where in the game does it ask for a protection check?

Hmmm, not sure if this is any help but... I know that GameBase Amiga and myself use this version from TOSEC:

... 1000 Miglia (1992)(Simulmondo)(en-it)[cr Goonies][t +1 Goonies][b crack].adf

I know it says "[b crack]"; the TOSEC guys can tell you exactly why this is but I you can definitely play the game. Guess there must be issues in later stages?

There is also an t+1 Goonies(a).adf and t+1 Goonies.adf

The (a) might be the same a (b), depends where you download it from I guess.

Alternate - [a]
Bad Dump - [b]

if you use the dlfrsilver's original uncracked version from the server it has manual protection after you enter your name. it asks you to enter words from a aptitude test card.
there is also mention in this thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?...ht=1000+miglia that the goonies version is not properly cracked and will fail later in the game.
stingray mentions the issues with the protection in the thread and he removed the protections for the whdload version.
it would be great to have a proper deprotected adf version

Once you have entered the words from the test card, does it ask again later in the game?

Hopefully one of the crackers can have a look at the disk

Marcuz also mentions an IPF??

i don't have the test card, it's not on HOL and google didn't find anything.
sounds like there are multiple checksum checks though aswell as the manual protection, thats what i got from reading some of that thread. seems like goonies and the other cracked versions got some of the checks but not all of them so the versions marked b crack will fail no doubt.
the good thing about the more up to date tosec is that a lot more bad cracks have been identified and labeled. makes it easier to avoid the broken images and keep a cleaner set.

edit - also regarding filenames with [a], any files which don't mention [b] b crack in the filename are more than likely just images from an earlier set where the filenames are not up to date. Belgarath mentions in the gamebase thread that all known available versions are bad cracks.
the game does need cracking and we have the original adf thanks to dlfrsilver so maybe the flashtro guys will have a look at it oo one of the other talented people here.

I notice that the manual from HOL is in Italian. Is there an English version somewhere?

i found a version someone had typed out from the dos manual but without the aptitude card part.
maybe the dos version would use a different card anyhow.
i still think the game uses other protection aswell as manual anyhow so the test card would be of little use.

Latest TOSEC dats has these files:

... 1000 Miglia (1992)(Simulmondo)(en-it)[cr CSL][b crack].zip
... 1000 Miglia (1992)(Simulmondo)(en-it)[cr CSL][t +2 Supplex][b crack].zip
... 1000 Miglia (1992)(Simulmondo)(en-it)[cr Goonies][t +1 Goonies][b crack - dump].zip
... 1000 Miglia (1992)(Simulmondo)(en-it)[cr Goonies][t +1 Goonies][b crack].zip

Anything prior to the above is just named incorrectly in old TOSEC dats

There's discussion somewhere in the GameBase section about it...

Yup; would be very cool to have a 100% working / cracked .ADF

There is some hidden checksum routines hackers missed back in the day on this game.

Has anyone got the test card for the protection screen?
It might be at the end of the manual according to some sources. The only manual scan I have found is in Italian, so I can't tell if it's there or not. (I got tired of typing into google translate)

It asks a question and the answer in on page? line? something like that.
I found a manual online and the guy stated that he had omitted the test II part as "everyone plays cracked games now" Another text file type up stated that the Test II is at the end of the manual, but I can't find it.

the last page in the italian manual from HOL is an info page, thats not including the advert pages right at the end.
so if dlfrsilver has an original copy without the test card i assume it would be unplayable and hopefully someone who has it can scan the test card.
test card wont help any of us hoping for a cracked version, the goonies version bypasses the manual protection but they missed some checksum routines.
maybe someone who knows how could tinker with the goonies version and remove the checksum routines they missed?

Didn't Stingray fixed the Whdload version? I know I've played the game after that, and it worked.
