PPC supprt in OS 3.9
I'd like to add PPC support in OS 3.9.
Should I install that with the floppies that came with the CSPPC card or with the OS 3.9 CD ?? Btw, should I install the SCSI software on the floppy that came with the card and the software on the CD that came with it too ?? |

insert the os3.9 cd, start the installation script and choose WarpOS (it says ppc support or something...) then update to WOS5.1 (the warpUP update 5.1 found here: http://powerup.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=13 )

Hmmm, I just installed WarpOS up to v 5.1 and then added PPCLibEmu also.
When I reboot the systems hangs right after showing the icons on WB, the background is still grey and the mouse cursor is not moveable (and showing the busy clock symbol). I installed the v 14 of WarpOS, should I have chosen the v 7 when installing PPCLibEmu also ?? |

did you install the cd-version first and then the update? also disable ppclibemu and try again, there is no big use of it, WOS progs are plenty

I installed the cd version, then the update, then the ppclibemu and then rebooted. Should I reboot in between some of these steps ??

I was suggested to test whether the PPC CPU works by installing the standard ppc.library and then run either the mountains demo or ppctool from the PowerUp CD.... I installed the ppc.library and rebooted the miggy.
When I double clicked the Mountains tool it said "Cannot open ppc.library" and double clicking the PPCTool resulted in nothing happening. I guess that means my PPC isn't working?? |

ok, what I do to test is this (assuming you do have WOS5.1 installed, ppclibemu is not needed)
Get amigaamp , install it and configure it to use the WOS engine from the menu... and let it play an mp3... if after a minute it still plays then u are OK! OR get this PPC TEST DMS by thomas , expand the DMS to a disk and boot with it. it will check your ppc |

I just tried the PPC test disk.... not good
When I do the PowerUp test it says "failed return code 10" and the WarpOS test just stalls right after it says it will start I guess that means the PPC CPU is not working.... are there any people who do repairs on CSPPC boards and how much should I expect that it would cost ?? |

bad news.... you can send it for check to mr. JJB in France, a fully trustworthy person, here is his page: http://www.amigacenter.com/Homer.html

Enough power reaching the board? You could try running a vanilla OS3.1 and then trying PPCtest to see whether the somewhat hybrid setup you have is causing conflicts.

@ keropi:
I contacted JJB and he responds that repairing it involves a risky process " The PPC CPU must be air-reflow at 230 °C approx. Its dangerous and sometimes makes the board definitively dead." Has anyone ever experienced a board dying during repairs... because I'm a bit hesitant to risking the 060 processor, SCSI controller and RAM expansion part of the board *shivers* @ alphonsus: I would think enough power should make it to the board. It is in an Amiga Technologies A4000T and the tower only has: 2 x HD floppy drives, 1 x SCSI cd-rom, 1 x CF card (the second not installed yet), 1 x PIV card and 1 x eFlash card... The cooler fan on the PPC CPU is spinning all the time so it should keep the CPU cool enough. Since PPCTest boots from a floppy does it really matter whether I have an 3.1 or 3.9 install on the HD ?? |

I haven't had any problems with the card in 060 mode, granted it has not been running for more than an hour at a time or so, but it has been completely stable during that time.

wellll.... tough decision... If I was you I would keep the card as a 060 ... but I would certainly send the card to JJB to check it and if there is nothing wrong with another part, then remove the ppc chip... so you will have a perfect working MK3 (and be sure the ppc is dead...)
