New Amiga 1000 User with Questions

Hi everyone, I recently inherited an Amiga 1000 system and was mainly looking to use it for retro gaming. I stumbled upon a few videos by Commodore4ever on youtube in which he uses an ACA500+ coupled with a ACA1233n in order to create a faster system and run games from a CF card.

So i went out and bought a ACA500+ & ACA1233n but am getting a huge headache trying to get the games to work. I watched a tutorial on how to set up the CF card with WinUAE and Classic Workbench in order to have WHDload and run the games. But every time I try to play a game they load for a few seconds and die or instantly crash. I always end up with some address error or any other number of errors.

Exception “Line 1111 Emulator” ($2C) at $270A occurred.

If I mount the CF as a HDD on my PC using WinUAE everything runs fine. Its just on the Amiga that it crashes constantly.

I'm going mad with frustration. Is there any way I can get my system to preform as in this video?

Welcome!
Are you using both Aca cards?
Have you tried using only Aca 500+ and see what happens?
Workbench works nicely, right? Have you installed WHDLoad in Workbench?

I just watched couple of videos from the same guy you posted, and it seems that he is not using Aca500+ but older version: Aca 500. So, after all, it seems that you don't have a same setup.
Hopefully, someone with better hardware knowledge then me will give you some idea, what to try to solve the problem.

Hi d4rk3lf! Workbench runs great there are no issues or glitches. It’s just when I go to run a game after I’ve extracted it in DOPUS. I’ll click on it and the game will load and crash after a few seconds. I’ve tried it with just the ACA500+ and it does the same thing.

I’ve tried changing the max transfer rate of the CF card when formatting to both 0x1FE00 and 0xFE00. Neither of those worked. I’ve also went into WHDload preferences and removed the semi-colon for NoAutoVec. Didn’t help either

Do you use latest new enough whdload? Some earlier version(s) of whdload had bug related to ACA500(plus) hardware feature that helps with 68000 quit key support and caused random crashes.

No I’ve only been using the version of WHDload that comes loaded with classic workbench. I’d format the card on the Amiga and copy all the files from the classic workbench program in WinUAE to the CF card with my PC.

I’ll try and update WHDload like you said Toni

The issue won’t be the ACA500+. Maybe do a clean WB 3.1 install on a spare card to test?

I've tried to reinstall workbench a few times but the games still crash. The only game which runs consistently is 4D Sports Driving.

I'm wondering if it may be the games themselves. I downloaded a huge game pack from the Internet Archive. Maybe I should look elsewhere?
