New Hardware Amiga
Hello everyone, this is my first post.
How is the new hardware Amiga going these days? Is it worth purchasing? Or it would be better to buy an A1200 and powering it up with expansions? Is the hardware copyright war still on? I still have my A500 since 1987 but I don't know if it still works... Thanks a lot! |

Hi frater_sx, and welcome to EAB!
If you still have your A500, I would advise you to find out if it still works before thinking about purchasing new hardware. |

I agree with prowler. I had my Amiga 500 in the attic from 1993 until this past June (and this is in Phoenix Arizona, USA, where the temps will exceed 135 Fahrenheit/57 Celsius), and after blowing off and re-seating the chips, it powered up and has worked 24/7 without failing. Since then, I've purchased a couple of upgrades (Clockport adapter and SilverSurfer high-speed serial interface), and later this year there are supposed to be other accelerators released, like the ACA1220.
And it's WONDERFUL having my A500 back in service - I don't know why I ever packed it up (other than my wife telling me to clean up my own room - as the old comic said "I get no respect around here"). |

New Amiga hardware has nothing to do with the Amiga save for the OS.

I think that Akira (and my humble self) was talking about new 'systems' rather than additional hardware for classic Amigas.

Sorry, that was not clear from the post, "...later this year there are supposed to be other accelerators released, like the ACA1220."

The original poster and I are clearly referring to systems, not to classic Amiga accessories lile Jens' fantastic devices. I can say that to anybody else but that's a long debate and ultimately beating a dead horse.
