simple method to transfer files to Amiga using Gotek

Hi All,

I was doing some testing on an a600 and i needed to install something on the cf card.

I found a nice simple way to get the files onto the cf card using the gotek and my laptop without using Winuae etc.

Here is what i done.

- created a blank.adf using Winuae (ok... i had to use it initially
- if you are not using total commander... why not ?
- download adf plugin for total commander if not already installed
http://www.ghisler.com/plugins.htm
- double click the empty.adf to open it (in total commander)
- transfer required files into the adf, copy the now edited empty.adf to usb
- exit, plug the usb stick into gotek, boot up, set it up to load empty.adf
- use dopus etc to copy/work on files

enjoy

Yeps..

I was poking around the selector.adf a bit some time back in order to make a selector.adf populator for Linux. Perhaps I'll continue with it some day, it would make this method actually handy. The selector just stores the sfn + lfn + offsets from FAT into the adf at predefined offsets.. Never had the time to make the implementation.

As of now it's reboot + wait for the selector to load + use the cumbersome ui to populate the slots + reboot into what you were doing again.. Meh!

I agree the gotek selector program is horrible, esp what an amiga is capable of (remember those bootblock menus on compilation disks like Defjam, all that in 1024 bytes!). I hope some scene coder rewrites it with funky colourful graphics, bigger font and easy to use UI (eg. Import/Export slot assignment to txt file)

Nah, I'd prefer for someone to make an intuition UI for it so that it doesn't have to take over the whole machine when you're doing that shuffle stuff.

Nice graphics are pointless here.

Not if it is just for gaming! But a small app running in workbench would be nice too

The current one is fine for gaming imo. :-) In real use you need to shuffle the images around a lot more, in gaming use you just do them once and happily use it.

Would have been nice with an external lcd for the Gotek which shows disknames and IPF-support. but i guess that won't happen since H.M stopped the development afaik.
