DEMO-SONGI still wanted?

I've been with a friend today, who created .adf image files of my old Amiga floppy-discs

including this one:

I had this one when I was a kid That tune is very distinctive, though mine didn't have songs ii or iii on it.

Here's a lossless FLAC of the song (playing through 2 times) that I did with WinUAE, using settings that would make it sound very close to a real Amiga 500. Since it's lossless, you can go ahead and crossfade the channels if you want less stereo separation, add fade out to the end etc if you so desire, before eventually encoding to a lossy format like MP3.

This song sounds bad on the A1200 (much higher low-pass filter cutoff) because the audio is aliasing quite a bit and the ~4.4kHz static LP filter in every other Amiga (like A500) does a good job of filtering away that.

no problem, emufan

try running it with a simple Amiga 500 config, Kickstart 1.2, 1MB total

that's my real hardware, and the settings I use in FS-UAE

Owww i missed these links, they've both now expired. If you're still around, is there any way to upload to an official Amiga Mod repository, so that there are permanent copies on the net?

The tune has significance for me because it was the perfect demonstration of Amiga's musical capabilities in dance music.

Thanks Emufan, I really appreciate all that you and the others have done to help out! It's nice that I've finally got what I was searching for (via your link), so many years after I accidentally wrote over the song on my Amiga.

Strange how this song was so overlooked. I'm guessing people still don't rate it highly, but for me, it was amazing.

cool you found it finaly

trouble is, always problems playing the song, Winuae with kickstart 1.2 512 chip/512 fast 68000 OCS chipset.
sometimes i can load the program and open the file, but when playing crash :/

tested BzrPlayer, Deliplayer, uade123 - nothing plays Demo-Song-I.

this may explain why not so many ppl know about that song

I tried WinUAE 3.4.0, Kick1.2, 1MBchip/2MB fast, ocs, cycle exact, 68000 and it is not crashing.

The GUI is similar to Oktalyzer.

Hi there, I only use Cloanto Amiga Forever (2013 version l think?) - great for newbs that just want the juice without the effort. It's a really nice implementation of WinUAE and it's quite cheap, it gives you all the Kickstart and Workbench ROMs legit, and automatically configures for different models of the Amiga, just select which Amiga model you want from the menu. It even gives you AROS as l recall seeing.

tl;dr: the "Amiga 500Plus" configuration does the job. I made a copy of it, changed the computer version from A500Plus to A500, and l think l left it at that. I removed the Workbench disk because the .adf you gave is self-booting of course. It loads perfectly, and plays perfectly. So nice to hear the samples again, and they sound so clear. Even today, the samples used on DemoSongI are so original. It's wonderful to see how the pitchbending and other hexadecimal FX worked to make the fantastic sounds on that song - it's not just straight sample playback.

Using higher and lower versions of the Amiga in Cloanto Amiga Forever either doesn't work or crashes very early on, probably because of the quirks of 8 Channel Soundtracker - that version was only suitable for the Amiga A500 maybe?

not by intention, but the tracker was made in 89/90 (!?) - so there was only kickstart 1.2/1.3 A500/A2000.
i think they did some hackery to make it work, drifting away from recommended programing guideline,
so it became incompatible to later kickstarts and amiga models.
