First Meetup - 03/02/2018

The event started at 12pm, although not everyone had arrived by then - the parking at the venue being interesting to say the least! As people arrived they began unpacking and setting up their equipment, as well as having discussions about the various machines/monitors/piles of parts that were on display around the hall.

Unsurprisingly the planned schedule was largely ignored on the day with the event having a more organic feel to it. We did have a great talk by Rob Cranley (Daedalus) on the basics of coding, and more specifically a high level introduction to Blitz Basic.

Perhaps most importantly we found time to have a SWOS tournament, again unsurprisingly, yours truly was out after his first game - flashbacks to getting trounced by my younger brother were definitely happening at this point. However the competition heated up, and eventually came down to a tense final match which was decided by a single late goal giving Andrew Clarke the victory. As this was the first offical Scottish usergroup meeting, there is a suggestion this may actually make him the current Scottish Champion - a title that I'm sure John McDermott will be contesting at the next meetup!

Overall it was a great day, with technical help being given for those who needed it, lots of Amiga discussion, and for those who could make it, a pub visit afterwards with burgers and beer (where we watched an entertaining livestream by John Hertell).

Another thank-you to Rob for organising, and it goes without saying that I'm really looking forward to the next one!

Cheers guys! Yep, was a great day, and thanks to everyone who came along! Will have to come up with a plan for the next one now, maybe extend it a little too - the 6 hours went by all too quickly.
