Another Amiga 3000 saved!

Hello!

A friend asked me to repair his A3000 with battery leakage problems.
My friend had already started the repair process but I abandon it.
See the images in order

Wow! How did you get the images of the circuit board layout to see what needed fixing?

Hi.
Thanks for the feedback !

lesta_smsc,
1) First I remove all the elements of the affected area.
2) Clean the area well using:
White vinegar.
hot water with soap and toothbrush.
cotton with alcohol.
using fine sandpaper to remove rust.
again alcohol and cotton.

Once I have the area clean, I take pictures, I turn them into grays and then invert the color.
I print in laser printer, and using green and red pen and ruler I check the status of each of the tracks. If the trace is OK them green and if it is broken in red.

In this way I assemble the map of the cut tracks.

Are you going to try to repair your A500 +?

Bye

I do not know the hours dedicated.
I was working it when I had time and enthusiasm.

The 3000 was probably Commodores finest moment but whoever decided it was a good idea to put a god dam battery in that tightly packed area... well I wont type the words here or I will get banned lol.

Why oh why did they not have the battery cell on a fly lead or something?

Oh and excellent work saving the board

So many Amiga's have been destroyed by the dreaded battery! Saved 512KB expansion that had a battery last week. But unfortunately, my 2 A500 plus' suffered the fatal consequences!

Two reasons.

It probably wasn't known yet that these batteries would eventually leak.

Plus Commodore never would have thought that people would still be using Amigas in this day and age.

It simply wouldn't have been a concern to them (or anyone else who made hardware which suffers from battery leaks, eg SNK Neo Geo).
