Amiga custom chips

Hi all,

I have been wondering about whether we will be able to come up with a solution to the end of custom chip availability. Let me preface my question with a statement that I have almost no experience of knowledge of electronics, although I am trying to learn.

Would it be possible to use a programmable chip to recreate an Amiga custom chip? It would require motherboard revisions. Since we have awesome people who have replicated the boards, couldn't newer boards be re-engineered to use a programmable chip in place of one of the custom chips?

there are already FPGA implementations.

Actually a lot of them, right now.

I rather like the idea of 'plug in replacement' chips so that you can use as much as possible of the old system while replacing any broken custom chips with (FPGA) re-implementations.

These things already exist for some C64 chips (PLC, SID) so I guess it's possible for the Amiga chipset as well.

Amiga custom chips, especially AGA ones, are rather available. You can buy them in some places.

Btw, SID chips are also available. I have myself few 6581R4AR and one 8581R5 for SIDblaster USB.

Have you tried buying a Buster 11 recently? Not so easy to find.
