I remember something about a maximum of 4 MB SRAM in the PCMCIA port...
But I'm not sure at all . |

Yep, you may be able to use it, but unfortunately you will only be able to use the first 4MB.

Make sure it really is PCMCIA and really SRAM before buying. Lots are neither.

Looks like this is an EEPROM card and not SRAM. Not much use I think.
I made the mistake of buying a 4Mb DRAM card that was also not PCMCIA, despite being sold as such. SRAM cards can usually be recognised by their enormous price tags. Linear flash cards are also no good, You might be able to use them as storage but I couldn't get one to work and the capacity is usually too small to be much use anyway. BTW, regarding the A600 anyway. Would I be correct to think that even a small card like 128kB would be pretty useful for getting that little fast ram speedup if the price was right. Only 4MB of address space is reserved for PCMCIA.
(At address 600000 to 9FFFFF) PCMCIA SRAM gives a nice speed increase for a600, but slows down an a1200. I'd go for 4mb SRAM if you have the patience to wait until one appears. But 2mb (+2mb chip) is also enough for most OCS/ECS whdload games. I know of a guy that wants to sell a pack of 10 2mb cards for €150 + shipping if anyone is interested. |

Not surprising. It's not an SRAM card.

I had a search for some SRAM PCMCIA cards after seeing some far out prices on ebay. Appears that Pretec still make them and Panasonic ended production last year. They are not cheap but there is at least one ebay seller charging at least 160% over the following retailers.
Pretec only- http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/re...Redirect=false Pretec and Panasonic- http://www.sourcetech.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=37_38_42&sort=20a&page=1 Panasonic as "end of life product" enquire for priceing and stock - http://www.jactron.co.uk/products/pc...-i-64kb-to-8mb BTW, does anyone know what the "2kb eeprom attribute" optional feature of these cards is and if it is compatible with amiga PCMCIA slots? |
