Never joined any EAB competition before but had my very first play tonight. Hopefully if real life allows, will spend more time with this game.

Just replied it to you I was just going to play a quick game on the weekend, no time to give a serious go for the competition unfortunately... I'll have time to check it again next friday, if you want so |

The power-up strategy working best for me is double shot (5 tokens), reverse shot (2 tokens, just before first enemy behind you), then missiles (3 tokens, just before ground launchers). Power shot (4 tokens) seems good after that but maybe shield is better, I haven't lived long enough to try it.
To hit the ground launchers with missiles line up diagonally behind them and tap fire repeatedly instead of holding down. They fire in the direction they're pointing when you release but tapping seems to get them consistently going forwards diagonally. |

Made it to the first level 2 boss on extra lives. I ended up picking up a second side shot power-up for three shots in total, which worked well up to that point. |

The game gives you a 15K (?) bonus for surviving the first level 2 boss, so my improvement isn't that much. I lost my good weapons beforehand but managed to wing it. |

May I ask what joystick are you guys using to play Ziriax? I ordered this one, not sure if it is any good.
As the programmer of Ziriax, you guys force me to play it again after 30 years :-) I'm not sure if I will be able to, 35 years of programming have caused severe RSI. Nevertheless, I really want to play the version that Ross fixed (hopefully it doesn't crash in level 3 anymore). BTW: Eric (nickname TAL on the Amiga, a friend of mine), was able to complete Ziriax multiple times... But he also could finish Nemesis and Vulcan Venture, so he was playing in a different league :-) Somehow he found a spot at each of the end-bosses where he almost couldn't be hit, while doing only very small movements. I was never able to find these spots myself, go figure ;-) |

Thought the 3rd weapon was completely useless because I just held down the firebutton. Thanks to arcanist's remark I learned how to use it and got a bit further now.
198,200 I use a Dualshock 4-controller. Never use my PS4 but it's nice to have its pad. Thanks to WinUAE you can map anything as you like. |

Very cool indeed that the author of this game has joined the competition ...it's been years since you programmed this but surely you must remember at least some of the enemy patterns etc? Regarding the fixed version by "ross"; you can guarantee that this is now 100%; he's a coding master / guru |

Nowadays I'm a gamepad heathen, I'm afraid, not a big fan of joystick ergonomics. I use a cheap Buffalo SNES-style USB gamepad with a TOM+ USB adapter for my A1200. If you beat the first level 2 boss you're basically at my score. |

^ Yeah, pretty much:
214,670 Though I didn't really beat but just survive him (I assume he'll show up again at the end of the level). |

And a bit further again:
237,570 These 8 rockets were too much. |

You should destroy the rockets by using your own rockets.
Well, if I can't get to level 3 anymore, then I must blame the joystick ;-) Because back in the old days, getting to level 4 was something we did frequently. Level 4 is fast, hard, insane, and that's on purpose Looking back to it, I should have added "level codes" that are unlocked when you finished a level without dying, a bit like in Zarathrusta. But at the time, I found that "lame" for an arcade shooter. |
