Parallel port emulation

Has any more work been done on parallel port emulation? For those who do not have an ethernet connection a Parnet / Pronet connection to their PC could help them transfer their files to the real amiga.

PC parellel port can't support parnet-style connection. (PC port's status pins are either input or output but parnet for example requires bidirectional Paper Out -signal)

Alexh, by using PC2Amiga (aminet) you can get a quite good Par-transfer. it's a fiddle to set up under Win2k and newer, but it's quite allright for WinME and below.

Ok, so BUSY, PAPER OUT, SEL are all bidirectional on the Amiga, and inputs only on the PC in all modes?

Hmmm.

Looking at the ParNet cable

http://pinouts.ru/data/ParNet_pinout.shtml

And looking at the PC SPP pinouts

http://www.technick.net/public/code/...pinconpar_pc#2

I wonder if a workaround could be created by cross connecting pins 14, 16 and 18?

I dont know if you have that kind of low level control of the printer port.

I guess it's not worth thinking about. For A1200/A600 a PCMCIA ethernet solution is cheaper than a custom cable.

I was really only thinking about superior transfer performance than serial for transferring to and from A500's.

BUSY, PAPER OUT = input
SEL = output

And no, it isn't worth the trouble..

I agree. I use removable IDE disk drive that I access via a USB2 to IDE interface on the PC side (mounting the HD with WinUAE). Ok, I have to switch off the amiga, but I get a huge transfer rate. And for small files, you still have floppy disks.
Not sure if the latest laptop PCs still have a parallel port. There isn't any on the Dell recent laptops (but there are quite a lot of USB2 ports )

You could have a look at http://www.boomerangsworld.de/apccomm/ -- it uses linux though.

You sure? All docs I can find have pin 13 (Select) marked as an input. It doesnt matter though.

You are right, SEL is input.

Lets try again..

Input: BUSY, PAPEROUT, SEL, ACK

Output: DRDY

BUSY, PAPEROUT and SEL are bidirectional in Amiga.
