Aceroms - Amiga TOSEC Dead ?
It appears dead to me. I had a few games to download and the server seems dead.
And if you go to the AceRoms site ( http://www.aceroms.com ) the entire TOSEC section they used to have appears to be missing :-( The news is in French but I cannot see anything about The Amiga written there. |

A few hours ago everything was fine but suddenly the link to "tosec roms" began to lead some other irrelevant page. Luckily I managed to download "it" before it disappeared and I'm willing to help anyone in need of getting something "specifically" from aceroms. I expect it to be up again though.

You mean you can FTP the server ?
I can't - I have a edited list of everything I want to download but cannot finish it now :-( I don't think the server is busy. I do a traceroute/ping and it takes ages to get there, I think a link in the middle is down or something. Add this to the fact that the webpages have changed and Aceroms is not the place to be looking for TOSEC Amiga right now ! e.g. trying the following don't work. ftp://202.101.177.172:8018/Tosec/Commodore Amiga - Games (K-O) (0.17)/King's%20Quest%20V%20%281992%29%28Sierra%29%28Disk%206%20of%208%29.zip |

Yes it appears to go into the middle of the MAME roms. It starts at about the title NAM 1975 or there abouts.
Since I'm not an HTML coder, I can't tell if the web page is working properly or if it's just this link. |

I've tried connecting to some other TOSEC d/l sites and unfortunately they are too busy to allow me to connect to them.

Yes, pity! Everything is gone now!
These ADFs were situated on an FTP, so I think that this FTP has just gone non-public now. If I'm lucky, I can look @ home where I have my old "Temporary Internet Files" BEFORE (!) I go online from home. It was an IP using port 8018. Hopefully I can play a trick on it this way. Last edited by andreas; 09 January 2002 at 08:24. |

Jim, I was able to d/l from Aceroms, even though their TOSEC page is hosed. Some nice soul on this board had u/l the entire TOSEC list from Aceroms and I've copied and pasted this really long url into IE6 and low and behold there is was and I just completed the d/l to my drive.
ftp://aceroms:roms@202.101.177.172:8...20-%20Games%20(K-O)%20(0.17)/King's%20Quest%20V%20(1992)(Sierra)(Disk%206%20of%208).zip /url I figured you wanted the non-German version. Also you could use this same format to d/l disk 7 and 8 as well. You need to change the %206 after the Disk in the parens, make it %207 for disk seven then %208 for disk 8. |

Thanks for your help all, but it is indeed working now (the FTP that is).
I had a Getright DL list. I had edited it to about 1000's disks - the best of the collection I have on floppy (ok there were some disks I wanted but never could get back then !!). It's fixed itself, I think it was a server problem - either their server or one between their server and my comp, the traceroute was very very slow & had high packet loss. |

Well @andreas, think you´re out of luck, I just tried it that way, and I cannot even establish any connection and ping to that site gives absolutely no reply

Yeah I noticed that too but there were no timeouts which is the real indicator, at least my tracert didn't show any.

As long as you set the maximum downloads to one at a time you should be ok using Getright or Flashget.

Yeah, you're correct LaundroMat about the position of not having to use apps like GetRight due to being on a broadband connection. You shouldn't have to use these kinds of apps unless on a dial-up connection.
I myself ran into a problem over at BTTR, I was banned for a day because their autobot thought I was using one of these apps I don't but because the broadband connection is so fast and I was d/l 2 files at once, this most likely triggered it. But now I take it easy on the server so others can have access too, not just users with bigger pipes |

Aceroms is now fully operational again. As I said in a previous thread, the FTP being down is a usual occurrence, normally at least once a week it happens. This is probably to allow them to update it and such like.
As too the actual web site, maybe someone forgot to dot the i or cross the t in the HTML code and it buggered it up, anyway all is fixed now. As far as Aceroms is concerned, I can only advise you of one thing and that’s patience. If it's down try it again a day or two later because if we carry on as we are, soon there will be hundreds of threads all covering exactly the same thing that this one covers. (ie Day one: It's not working, day two: It's back up again) |

Hmm, yesterday and today I seem to be having issues d/l from Aceroms again. Strange however as I can copy/paste the link into another browser window and some of the files will d/l while others will just return a cannot display window error
