Ok... i try to toss in my point... the full one
What if a new rom can handle even the 32Bit card? A wire less lan on ur Amiga? Would that not be great? ... not that ur Amiga is portable... but thats not the point Give the Almighty Amiga some more power called compatiblity. At this point we use what we have and that stock is getting lower and lower, time some somthing new in the Amiga. Altough i have no idea if even can be done... it still would be great (i have gaven up on the curent card i have, and are on the hunt for good one now') |

Well, since it is an 16Bit Port it will be difficult to make a 32Bit one out of it !!!!
Sure, it can be done but I guess a complete new design of the A1200 Mobo would be needed .... And THAT would not be a benefit, would it ??? |

Hey. mr. dude, have you tried to insert a 32 bit card in the amiga´s pcmcia port???
If you have managed this, then by now you probably have a broken connector in your miggy. WHY? because the new 32 bit cards have a slightly different design in the plastic guides, looking carefully from the pins side (the side that goes inside the amiga) you may notice that 32 bits cards have a different shape (just a little little bit) with one of the guides a bit fatter than 16 bits cards. This was done to avoid connection of 32 bits cards to old 16 bits ports tath cant manage the new voltages required for the new 32 bit cards. Did you know that pcmcias comes in 5 volts and 3.3 volts flavours? So guess waths happens if you put a 3.3 volts card in a 5 volts port!! (heat, more heat then SMOKE!!) Thats why a simple (well not so simple) rom upgrade is not enough to handle 32 bits cards. Wireless networking is nowadays possible in amiga thanks to the PRISM.device (available from aminet), but as always you need to read the docs and find a compatible card. |

There are also 16bit wlan cards, most prism2 chipset cards are 16bit.
Get an Orinoco Wavelan card (or another with a suitable chipset) and use the drivers from Aminet. Wlan on Amiga. Whoop-de-doo. But yeah, like has been said, you don't just reprogram a ROM to use 32bit cards - the bus protocol is totally different.. You need a proper cardbus controller. |
