Multi-System DATs
Hi guys,
I've been downloading the complete No-Intro sets of stuff such as Megadrive, SNES, Master System, NES, PCE, etc. etc. The dats are all well and good and contain almost everything I could ever want. The problem lies within the fact there are so many dupes, name variations, language version, bioses, betas, etc. within the dats. Are there any DATs available that will leave me with the best versions left to play? I basically want to be left with all English language roms (or ones you can get away with them being Japanese/Whatever), preferably 60Hz (unless there is no 60hz version available) and no duplicates of games with different names (Beyond Oasis/Legend Of Thor). Of course, if a translated version exists that is better than the English original then I will take that (Dynamite Headdy/Zero Wing). I know there are the GameBases, but they seem to scattered all over the place and the DATs themselves don't seem that easy to find. Any ideas guys? |

Unfortunately I think that Gamebase and No-Intro are your best shot to work from. I tried to make such a set for the SNES (only one version, but well German if possible), but after some time I just switched to the No-Intro set and now I use the Gamebase made by Retroplay, which isn't complete but features only the 'best' versions. However fingers crossed that someone knows where to find Dats like that

Just stumbled across this...
http://forums.no-intro.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1196 Seems people are starting to make seperate Parent / Clone Sets... Might be what I need. Need to look a little deeper. Other systems are here: http://forums.no-intro.org/viewforum.php?f=13 |

KG, might sound a dumb question but have you enabled the filters (ie Dupe Filter) which if the DAT is properly written will remove certain roms. Works well on NDS DAT for example to filter out Euro releases if you are collection the US releases and so on.
Also there is a filter to display only languages U want... But yeah, the general point is you're looking for a Gamebase style DAT. |

I haven't, I've only just gotten around to reinstalling clrmamepro after buying a new system so I'll take a look at it now.
Right... so I need an XMDB file to enable the filtering? They don't exactly seem easy to come by! Or maybe I don't... what the hell is 1g1r mode anyway? Arrrrrrrrrrrgh what am I doing!??!? Last edited by killergorilla; 03 April 2009 at 11:36. |

I've decided to filter them out myself
Couldn't get any language filters working in anything! |

I just have all my systems setup in Hyperspin, looks very slick and has things like genre selection for mame (can select just fighting games for example), the ability to select favourites, only show parent roms etc.
You can grab xml files directly off the Hyperlist site and then just use the various third party tools to rename your collection (or with the latest version you don't even need to do this with the new rom mapping feature). If you want a big project to work on then getting a mostly complete Hyperspin setup will keep you very busy. |
