Unhappy Guru!

Hi. I put my Amiga 3.5" HDD into my PC, and I'm trying to use WinUAE to repartition and reinstall workbench 3.0 on it (a fresh clean install) since I don't have any WB floppies, or any floppies at all. WinUAE boots, loading the install 3.0 disk, and I get a guru: adress: 8000 0004 error: 1001fc58.

Anyone know what's wrong?

Can the emulated Amiga see the drive ok? (i.e. it appears in the Early Startup Control)

Does the guru (and "your Amiga program just did.."-message in log) disappear if you remove the harddrive?

Yes

It's strange, if i boot from the hdd without startup-sequence it still gurus. Could it be a virus? (weird, since I've only installed wb30, mui, mcp on it)

Does the HD currently have a bootable WB installation on it?

You probably have installed a filesystem on the drive which is somehow incompatible with WinUAE or none at all. Disable all partitions in the Early-Startup menu, boot from the Install ADF and use HDToolbox to reinstall all file systems. Do not touch the partition borders or all data will be lost.

I use the standard FS by Amiga OS 3.0, I haven't changed it...

Oh and BTW the problem might be solved if I format the HDD, but if I don't do that from an Amiga the MBR/RDB will be overwritten, right? So WinUAE won't recognize the drive anymore, which is bad bad..

You've moved the HDD around. The file system could have become corrupted. You should try to renew it.

If you partition the HDD with Windows, WinUAE will no longer recognise it unless you use the -disableharddrivesafetycheck command line option.

Why don't you use WinUAE to format it in Amiga format ?

Because if I start WinUAE with the HDD enabled I get gurus. :/

I have solved it I think. I formatted the HDD in WinXP, with FAT32, and used WinUAE (forced hdd detection) to repartition the drive (I got no gurus this time), which now has a 258mb large workbench: and a 1762mb large work:. Did the problem begin as I by mistake had a 1mb large partition in the beginning of the drive, or because something I installed (mcp)? I dunno... but I got gurus even with no startup-sequence.

Anyways, seems to work now. Thanks all!

Keep up the good work Toni!

Haha. No joy. Damn I'm so screwed... I put back the HDD into my real 1200, 060, 32mb. It gurus. if i boot with no startup-sequence it boots, no guru at all. i renamed the user-startup to see if that was causing any troubles but no, wasn' that. then i tried commenting out the setpatch >nil; command and that helped a bit, it now boots into workbench and guru's after like 3 seconds. after that I tried uncommenting iprefs, and now boots wb but guru's after like 10 seconds. isn't this weird?

Do you have a 68060 accelerator in your Amiga ? Then you need to install a special 68040.library and the 68060.library. And SetPatch is needed.

Yes I do, and I have those libraries. I'm 99% sure of it... setpatch is in the startup-sequence. Does it need special arguments? I haven't touched it, WB installation has taken care of it I think. Hm...

edit: yes the libs are there, now this morning i booted it up fine to workbench, then after 2 ´seconds i got a guru. the 68060 is cold enough...hm...

The guru is always the same: Error: 8000 003D Task: 470848B0

If i hold the 2-key to disable the 060 the workbench runs for about 5 seconds then hangs. (this is on the real amiga)

Do you get gurus on your real Amiga if you boot off a floppy with the HD installed?

Sorry I can not test that as I have no Amiga floppies that are bootable into workbench (just got some game floppies)
