Hello. Adding the 500 to my collection.

Hello.. I have a Amiga 500 (1 meg upgrade) on order for the end of November. i had one of these in the late 80's and really enjoyed the pd demos. I have taken a few years to collect a computers and consoles from all generations and still have some way to go. No collection would be complete without the mighty Amiga. I remember as a child going into our local computer shop and seeing the walking cat demo, I was blown away!
Can i still buy old pd demos? and how should i upgrade my 500 so i can load newer stuff? I am by no means a programmer and i don't pretend to be. I just love to watch the Amiga running demos. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Carl

Disks may be hard to come by
and not very reliable (media or drives)

Consider a Gotek Drive

The Euroscene 1 and 2 CDs contain bunch of demos in LHA and DMS compressed format demos. DMS is a disk compressed image.
Aminet is an excellent source of demos.

Proof that if you were a Euro gamer back in the Eighties, you must have owned an Amiga.

Dan Wood of Kookytech fame has created some excellent videos on upgrading classic Miggies. Welcome to the fold.

This said, rather than a Gotek drive (which I personally do not like) you could also use a Compact Flash (CF) card as a hard drive and install everything on it rather than "emulating" floppies with the Gotek.
I personally find this much more appealing and it still allows you to use the original floppy drive whenever you need it.

True, but he only has a 500 --- and IDE options for it are expensive.

I would definitely consider Kippers 8mb card with the CF HD. I highly recommend it.....

If one can wait for the around-end-of-year ACA500 then it will not be so expensive.
