I'm not sure what sort of relationship there is between Jens sex-life, and the ability to design a CPU accelerator for the Amiga. If there is one at all. If not, then this direction of the thread is purely of-topic, and should be abandoned. Even if there is a connection, i'm not sure it's right to discuss Jens private life on-line where everyone and there moralizing grandparents can take part. These things should be kept discreet.

I realize this may be way off-topic, but it is good to hear that the old A500 is still getting a lot of love!

Is there any chance we might see a new batch of network cards from Jens? The one thing I have on my wish list is a NIC that would work with an unaccelerated A500, even if it was just basic functions. I have a 3000 with an X_Surf 3 that has 500MB of .DMS files that I'd like to copy over to my 500's hard drive. Copying over a network link would seem to be the easiest way, but the expansion slot is populated with a GVP SCSI controller without a pass-through, so that interface is out.

I realize that a stock A500 would probably have atrocious throughput over a TCP/IP connection, but I'm not as worried about speed as I am convenience.

2) plug drive into A3000 scsi chain, minding the ID settings
3) copy files
4) put machines back together, reverting the ID change you did previously
5) there is no step five

Looks like as when Jens is working on a USB card for the proprietary system bus, further more there is rumour of a turbo card for the Amiga 500 based on the 68020 CPU and a SATA card for the Amiga 1200.

I would also like to announce we have an agreement in place for licensing for the FPGAArcade board. It was a pleasure dealing with Chris and we have the code up and running already. We are getting over 12MBytes per second transfer to a USB stick, and this should increase with some tweaking.

Good question, thanks to the new accelerator cards more and more people are upgrading their A600/A1200 classic Amiga's, giving the second hand market at the moment I'd say there is a definite demand for a new USB card.

USB experts, E3B, have been linked to some designs with Jens.

But the disagreement between E3B and Chris Hodges (E3B's inability to license Poseidon anymore nor to anyone who licenses E3B hardware) may restrict what USB work E3B can directly contribute to Jens?

I do wonder what people do with their USB cards... you cannot use them when running WHDload making them useless for mouse and keyboard. USB key... you may as well use a PCMCIA or IDE to CF adapter at £2. All I can think of is ethernet.... and I'm not really sure what users do with ethernet on the Amiga... file transfers are slow, web-browsing is painful.

For me, it's mostly file transfers.. And mostly for convenience, not speed.

It's much easier to have, for example, KG's whdload packs on my PC.
I have my Amiga on the network and just use FTP to grab one when I need it.
It's slowish, but not terrible..
Yes, I could put them on a CF card and transfer as needed, but it's just much easier to not do the sneakernet approach.

Of course, I have PCMCIA ethernet, not USB. I've gone back and forth on getting USB and have not been able to justify it.
But I'm glad people are working on it.

I didn't realize that WHDLoad and the USB stack didn't like each other.
Same reason you need to stop your networking stack, I assume?

I think it's something we're going to discover very soon: last week Vesalia marked the Subway both as a new product and in-stock, but they're gone now. I doubt it was a mistake.

I think that USB is realy nice on Amiga when compared to a Deneb as it is a 1in1 product : Files transferring, HDD controller, sound card, rom storage... It is the perfect device for me.

(Do you mean the Subway connected to a Zorro card?) I'm yet to test that.

My Deneb USB is about 6mb/sec for file transfers, I've never tried my Highway USB as that arrived damaged and has spent the last 8 months with E3B!

I'm sure I got higher speeds than 200k with the Subway, maybe 800k/sec? I will have to double check & report back...

I've not fired up my A1200T for a long time as the HDD died... It would be good to compare speeds between that and the A600 with A604 as it has a special clock port for the Subway.
