Angry Mame.dk Shuts off file access

Seems that mame.dk had to shut off rom access via their site. Some asshole, i.e., idsa and their nazi goons sent them a cease and decist request.

I understand their dilema, but man I wish these freakin jerks would get it thru their thick skulls that these machines and their associated software are no longer in general circulation

What do you guys think of this explanation?http://mamedk.cjb.net/

Anyway, about Aceroms, whenver I try to download anything from them, it gives me a "file not found" error (when using a download manager) or "this page cannot be displayed" (without a download manager.)

How do you guys get around this?

You can't get around this, some links are just broken. And the content of mamedk.cjb.net doesn't make any sense to me but who knows anyway.

Muzkat, that was a fascinating, engrossing link. Mind you, I was unable to read the full linked icq logs, but I read an awful lot of that stuff, plus the message board, etc. What a filthy industry...

The links at aceroms aren´t broken The only problem is that only 2 people at one time are allowed to access the ftp where the files are stored .... so just be patient and try again later

Unhappy

Damm, I was going to post up this thread having found out a couple of days ago!
Very sad news. I must admit though, that it would help if a certain cut off date could be applied,(eg:no games released after 1994), in a sanctioned freeware upload.
But as has been pointed out before,it'll never happen.
Makes me wonder what'll happen to such a great archive of precious roms.
Given their historical signifigance,(ie: some from bust companies etc.),I'd had to see them wiped out.
Any bets on which company might've been responsible?

Those logs in that link are well over a year old. I remember all the flame wars against tim eckel (from arcadeathome) at the time. They have nothing to do with Mame.dk closing down this time.

Oh, well...I'd never read all that stuff before. I guess it's like that quote Pyromania had in another thread...any book you haven't read before is a new book. Regardless of how outdated, it was an enjoyable bit of snoopery. Shame they went down now, for whatever reasons, but usenet and irc are the proper methods for collecting mass quantities.

Sure it is. I think people get used to the convenience of a GUI point and click interface with pictures and familiar controls, but it really takes very little work to come to grips with irc and usenet. And the payoff is so worth it.

As long you don't want to tell me that the AMIGA Links are working, I believe you...
Because those definitely aren't working right now. And you cannot convince me here. You can easily figure it out yourself:

ping 202.101.177.172

If the server doesn't respond (or loses packets while PINGing) you can't get a stable connection at all.
And ftp'ing by command-line ftp in Windows, even applying port 8018 always results in a "connection refused".
This FTP is OFFLINE right now, when will you eventually believe this.

If you mean comparing Emuchina to Aceroms, I think it's because you can still connect and d/l stuff from them via the web pages where as Aceroms is pretty much a lost cause for just about anything

I've noticed that I can at least d/l from Emuchina much more now then I've ever been able to before, knocking on wood
